Note

Huge walk with Liz, Black Mts, from Llantony, same as we did in 2011 as Alpine training, we'd forgotten it was so far! 7+ hours, of which 6 were spent walking..... both shattered by the end, in a good way.

Note

Sport climbing in Woodcroft Quarry with Steve Wright, with the intention of redpointing "Gunshot Wound to the Head" , 6c (was 6c+ in old guide / on UKC).

We both got it 1st redpoint (ie. 2nd attempt), having dogged / fallen first try. Very full on & tiring, and we weren't full of energy for the rest of the day!

Dogged two 6b's, then dicked around on new stuff for fun before repairing for well earned cold beers :) Top day. Nice to clip bolts rather than do the trad thing on the grit....

Orienteering race (Urban) 32:17 [4] 6.0 km (5:23 / km) +30m 5:15 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

BOK Urban, Emersons Green, Green (as I had raced last night) 4.5km

Excellent green course by Charles. Always interesting, with tricky route choices, but never "Ha! Caught you out there!" stuff that I hate.

No 1 - at least 3 routes, I missed south route to no 10, costing me, plus no 16 i went east which i thought was very clever, but in fact it wasn't the best route (tho i was fastest).

I actually ran pretty hard, legs/ hip survived the 5km last night, and I was keen to take on "I don't do urban!" Ifor - but in fact Tommi was the main threat.

Collected about 10 controls in later, from the north part of the map. Map excellent - updates by Dudley. A brilliantly planned & organised event & I had pretty much nothing to do . Thanks Charles!

Running race (Road race) 19:28 [5] 5.1 km (3:49 / km) +39m 3:41 / km
(injured) shoes: Saucony Fastwitch 6

Probably shouldn't have done this, but...

Filton "Flyer" 5km B&W road race,

Hip/SI sore from climbing etc. Still bloated & with headache from grim meal earlier.

Plan was follow Ken Ham but the start felt so slow I sort of ran ahead of his group - and let Imogen Peck (1st lady) drop me. Pace seemed slow, 3:46 at 1km, then 3:44 for the slightly downhill one. Ken Ham was catching me, and he finally nailed me at one lap, and i was gasping for air.

He reeled in Imogen, and the first Vet60 caught & passed me (FFS!), but at 4km, he dropped Imogen & I went with him, & I felt good, so I dropped him but lost it in the last 300m as I have no speed as i do no speed work & no drills & I was buggered, frankly.

everyone's garmin said 5.1km, so I consider I did 5 sub 4 min km in a row, and I will take it, tho it was pretty poor.

Hip very sore afterwards, see what the next few days brings.

Bottle of wine worth £6 won, for entry fee of £6. Next time I'll sit at home and not move, & have the same result, i guess.

Note

Bamford Edge climbing with Tim (drove to Ravensdale to find bird ban).

1st 2 routes horrendous - a HVD 3c that was GHASTLY. Then a jamming crack that i could NOT do - HS 4b - 1st done 1951! Very unhappy & embarrassed being lowered off my gear.

Led a VS 5a (lovely - good pro; no jamming) and a thuggy HS (fell onto cam, got back on), , then finished with an amazing wrinkled wall VS 4c, so a great day , and more BBq / beer / garden activity. Melinda arrived from the Tamar triple, with maps. V pleasant evening. Go home? Not a chance!

Being Tim's personal climbing guide is good way to spend a life! Great food too. Brilliant bank holiday.
