Running race 45:55 [5] 9.2 km (4:59 / km) +401m 4:06 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

Nailsea Runners' Ironwood challenge, 9.2km, off road mudbath. 5th place.
Had saved myself for this, only doing Blue course steadily yesterday.

Started sensibly (chatting to B&W guys Andy Malloy & Paul Jefferson) but dismayed as the leaders & about 20 others seemed to be gone. Ooops. Accelerated & moved thru up first big hill.. Eventually catching Jane Faram, my club's star woman who is on v good form on the roads & was looking good here too.

Foolishly passed her after about 3km, & had totally dropped Andy Malloy & Paul J too . Counted the guys in front of me - oh shit , I'm now 5th!!! What on EARTH was I thinking? Up the long road drag, all the way from the bottom to the top, i was feeling ghastly puffing & panting away at over 5mins/km, but not losing any places or gaps opening, so stuck at it. At the top, things reverted to normal and I felt good, catching the guy in 4th - but to be fair, I'd had enough by now & never tried to beat him. Turned out he was a Vet45 - he looked v young from behind!!!! Lots of techy descents & my VJ dobs delivered - awesome.

45 seconds quicker than Mark B last year , but his run is, of course, *intrinsically* superior, due to worse mud then.

1st Vet50, bottle of plonk. Smiles all round. No injuries. Great!

Orienteering race 51:56 [3] 7.67 km (6:46 / km) +218m 5:56 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

NGOC League, Bixslade, Blue course 6.2km/ 245m 1st/28 51:56

Only did Blue as have a (tough) straight running race tomorrow, wasn't going to go but then Owain asked if we could share transport.

Enjoyable. Just jogging / walking hills early on. Weird fence to no 2 - 30 secs? stopped too short no 3 (map a bit remiss) - 20 secs. Went in too early no 6 - 30 secs. Course became Orange standard near the end, due they said, to having to replan the end at the last minute. Used thumb compass, which was nice, but not ready to trust it in a big event. It doesn't sit on my map.

Very pleasant, almost spring like day out. Owain struggled on the Brown. Good practice for him!

Note

Indoor bouldering at TCA with Liz, Gnellie, Jenny & David.

Shoulder OK at first, then got more sore as I progressed onto "harder" moves.

Good session tho. Lifting lots of tiles & storage stuff later. Knackered.

Note
(rest day)

Tired again. Day spent on Clifton flat, B&Q, Wickes, scivvying in flat clearing up etc etc.

(slept there last night) (bathroom fitter arrived 8:05am, 10 minutes after I woke up). No plans to move back in - although it's a wonderful flat/ home / place, and probably the best decision I ever made in my life (despite opposition from my then landlord). See how the next 10 days' renovating go, and running can take a back step for a bit.

Note

Note: interview went OK but was very rusty technically after 3 years off, & they could tell, but otherwise seemed to go well, so who knows? I had vastly more Lloyds exp than both of the interviewers, and hopefully they can see that & get me in.

Running 48:00 [3] 10.0 km (4:48 / km) +107m 4:33 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

Ghastly steady run in repulsive rain / some wind/generally vile. Frome/ Frenchay / Begbrook. Potter country.

V slippery on grass verges. the football pitches & park grass in Oldbury court were repulsive in training shoes.

Yellow hi viz top had mud streaks up the back at the end - tracksters also v muddy.

Felt very laboured. Couple of days off me thinks.

Note
(rest day)

Beaten up.

I think I'm doing too much, need to ease off. Probably to do with the operation 7 months ago. I know I'm not "like I was" .... :-(

Running 1:00:00 [3] 12.04 km (4:59 / km) +135m 4:43 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

Steady run, to tesco's eastville to recycle water filters & bulbs (never again on a run!) - too much stopping & starting.

Started to bonk at 45 mins (hadn't eaten much..) & promptly fell over heavily - really bad - didn't move for about a minute.

Got up & seemed ok and the "bonk" never materialised - adrenaline? Carried on and seemed fine. Stopped at bang on 60mins.

Agent called - interview on wednesday, which means no BOK Army event, boo shame!
