Eastville Park Run farce

Stomach recovered overnight, sadly I am not remotely the runner i was, and even worse, this parkrun a) had poor marshalling (at the crucial turn, the woman in yellow stood there wasn't marshalling - just clapping & saying "well done!" - all the leaders carried on; people behind turned right; I was in between so nearly all my lot swore and had to change direction, I cut across playing fields - lost 20-30 seconds).

Then later on, as the leaders caught us (having done full lap), there was a mini lap and again people were splitting - FARCE! the now extra marshalls were saying "which lap did you do first time - big or small?" - I'd done neither; had another c~10 seconds stand still conversation there.

Felt shite - the gradual uphills were really tough (so unfit); yet the gradual downhills were awful, due to my LH hip displacement thing, so LH calf felt it was nearly tearing plus LH hamstring pain.

Early kilometre splits all sub 4 mins, which I'll take as a positive; otherwise, far & away the shittest run I've ever had in a ParkRun. Took at least an hour to cheer up. Sociable, which was more important.

(Even Garmin fucked up on me at the start - spent 1st 100m+ trying to get it to work - what's going on there???? - after it failed on me 2 days ago). - this explains why my own time is 7 seconds quicker than the time they've given me; I probably "raced" 5.2km. What ever. WHATEVER!!!

551 runners (Pomphrey hill was cancelled) - utterly BONKERS.

Note
(rest day)

Very tired - more than I should be after a 50 minute run, but they said 9 months to full recovery from my op, I'm 53, and it's only been 6 months.

Potential bouldering at TCA canned due to Liz still having a cold.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

More stomach discomfort throughout day.

This happened last week, & is similar to last June/July.

Worrying. (Very)

Guess I'd better see GP . Blood tests last year showed my issue. So hopefully, that will not be there anymore.

Running 50:30 [4] 10.2 km (4:57 / km) +161m 4:35 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

Pretty cross that i selected "running - indoor" by accident at the start, cos i was segment hunting today for 1st time & had some major wind assistance on one of them. very windy. route similar to last thurs, but no wet grass purdown.

Major efforts up hill in Stoke park - DAMMIT need to get a mark for that segment ! - plus UWE cut through segments. Had to stop and bend double to recover from these. (stopped watch)

Wussed out or purdown into the gales, and ran down the road instead. (Romney avenue). 45 mph winds - vile.

Definitely getting fitter. Aching down LH side (hamstrings/ lower back) and need to get this addressed. Appointment in 10 days. NOTHING like as bad as this time last year, though (when i couldn't run at all).

Managed to grab a run on the Pennine way into increasing snowfall & mist, was rather weak on the uphill bits.

Legs quite dead & had had enough of soft & uneven ground by the end. Rest day needed. But nice to end my Malham break with a decent outing.

Brilliant Tett-organised weekend, really enjoyed it.

Drove home ghastly - 5 hours. South africa would have been nicer ;)

(rest day)

Hungover & sleep deprived (from Malham Disco - I DJ-ed, bed 1:30am) & legs dead from fell race.

Managed a short walk (7km?) but sadly the weather really got bad & I got v cold & wet. Beat a hasty retreat.

Last night in Malham. Great trip.

Malhamdale Fell race (a closed race)

Great race for the people at Tim's Malham trip. Ran v well here 2 years ago, 7 mins slower this time. 7 minutes. Well........

Cagoule on plus hat & gloves. Started a bit optimistically, overtook Kimb at top, and followed Phil Winskill who was clearly going to win by miles. Had that "oh shit" moment after c.15 mins as Kim & Simon clawed me back, and so decided to wuss out & run with/behind them. Ricky sped past on steep descent to bottom of cove, then I had a "senior moment" as those 3 (Kim, Ricky, Simon) all headed back up THE WAY THEY CAME DOWN. ¿Pardon?

Lost 45 secs trying to re-cross river alone (idiot), leading two juniors up with me (they thought I knew what i was doing, ha ha). Got to top of steps, the youngsters (Ewan Patten?, & a Trynor child?) had to wait for Pete T, so I asked Kirsty (waiting at top) the way, & luckily, got back on the tails of Kim & Simon. Passed Ricky. But somehow - he got back to us at the foot of the major difficulties!

Very spouty & cold & slippery & frankly, bloody dangerous Gordale waterfall, one slip would have been unthinkable. Both kim & I were too far left on the steep rocks, & had to bridge across in v scary position, with water being blown into us. Then K, S & I had a nice, friendly, non comp run in together, much to Tett's disgust ("Anyone caught not racing to the end in future years will be disqualified on the spot!" he droned)

Equal 2nd, Phil W 1st 69:26, me Kimb, Simon the EPOC SPOOKSTER , all on 79:50, some astonishing junior runs just behind us, oh dear. Doomed. DOOMED.

Was a lovely run - and I felt miles better after this than , say, my tragic training run 3 days earlier. Smiles all round :)
