Orienteering race 1:00:26 [5] 10.7 km (5:39 / km) +190m 5:11 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265 Blue

SOC November classic / Southern Champs. 9.5km 230m, Fritham

Supposedly a major fixture on my O year, but after the recent trials with hamstring & health, plus 2 pints & a massive curry the night before, and a very sore leg from yesterday's urban, I wasn't hopeful to even finish.

Started with Tim Tett who dropped me immediately - I was running hindered by leg & also Skins shorts ON TOP (!) of my O bums. Felt & looked awful.

Steady start, but leg not too bad so pressed on & started enjoying it & also pushing it a little. Why not? No 5 lost a minute to Clive - I just made a meal of getting over the hillside; Missed no 6 overshot (30 secs), then no 8 was unsure of hillside - 45 secs; then good through to 15, and hopeful that this was going to be a good one! sadly 16 & 17 were short, no-catching features compass / pacing jobs - small miss on both - 1min 15-ish for both? pacing was good; compass work less so. But still - no major cock ups !!! Yet.....

18 - 20, good, and really hopeful, then idiotic miss at 21 (45 secs) - after running flat out down open area I neglected to see that ditch went to control - went too far north. ran hard up last hill in anger, realising I'd fail to beat 60 mins, I was faster than Clive on this leg & the run in, but NO ONE CARES .

Very lucky to hang on to second place (2nd time in 3 years I've been 2nd); Clive was so far ahead that would never ever have been remotely possible to win. The M45 posse around 58 - 59 mins would have been possible, but I "just" scraped that one in (2nd place).

Leg not too bad. Viral feeling from yesterday also gone, so maybe I can come back from this - but I need a break.

Note M45's: Bill slower than Clive; posse at 58-59 mins I would really have preferred to be ahead of. It's fair to say Clive was in a class of his own today - but I did beat him on some splits!!!! Crazy. http://race-results.info/races/20161106then/classp...

Orienteering race (Urban) 51:17 [5] 10.4 km (4:56 / km) +85m 4:44 / km
(injured) (sick) shoes: Saucony Fastwitch 6

Woke up feeling AWFUL again - viral, washed out, spacey.

Drove to Salisbury - got out of car at one point & felt dizzy & weird. Not boding well.

Also, hamstring/ buttock a worry,

Luckily when I started running the endo's kicked in and washed away the viral/ spacey feeling. Felt very light & nimble again, so ran OK but not 100% . steady start then going OK til hesitant at no 9 (30 secs+), then major error leaving 12 (didnt' see blocked alley ) - 1 minute. no 15 started going up alley then realised control was on other side of wall - 10 secs; 21 failed to plan exit from 20 (idiot), 10 secs; 24 too hesitant.

Managed to find last control OK unlike Paul & Jeremy & was not happy with 51:17 & 4th place, should have been under 50 on that.

Good course; tricky in places; well planned. Hired EMIT a pain - wasting about 4 seconds (did someone say 4 seconds!!!) at each control until about no 10 when I realised I needed to move the buckle over, so I could actually get the unit into the controls. Hmmmm.

Hamstring got progressively more painful til by the last 20 minutes I was in constant pain. not a "tear" tho - Ben saying he has the same thing. Mine also started with a back "pop" lifting stuff 2-3 weeks ago.

Felt a bit ill later, but not as awful as in the morning, so whatever's going on there, may be passing.

(sick)

Woke up feeling a bit shit - only 1.5 pints last night after band practice. Hmm. Not best pleased.

TCA bouldering, probably shouldn't have gone but it's sociable. Climbed reasonably considering, but totally had enough by 12:30. Did do masses of green problems & even burned off the terrible twins (Liz & Nellie) on a couple - I'm improving, good.

LH buttock / hamstring issue fairly benign today, but no running.

Took to bed in afternoon to stay warm, & predictably nearly fell asleep. A bit like Monday morning.....

I am SO HAPPY I do not work.

Running 45:20 [3] 8.3 km (5:28 / km) +25m 5:23 / km
shoes: Saucony Guide 7

"Fartlek" type sesh with Sian, a 22:30 5km runner & ex colleague, in Snuff Mills / OLdbury court (I had O map with me too).

Hamstring again sore, this time, I found my trainers haven't got a heel raise in them on LH side, which could part explain it... but even so. "Damage" already done?

Some good efforts, by Sian, but I was taking it easy in the main, & feeling very fit & in control - apart from my pain in LH hip/buttock / hamstring, which kinda ruined the run a bit. She hurt a lot more than me!

IKEA for coffee & breakfast after :) easy life......

Running 31:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:10 / km) +30m 5:02 / km
shoes: Saucony Guide 7

Easy / steady run from home, taking in local roads & sports field of Oasis Academy. Nice grassy grounds to run across.

Sadly, LH hip / buttock hurt the whole way - need to see physio. sesh booked for Monday. What is sciatica? Might I have it?

Virus gone; felt rested, light & bouncy; would have been great apart from the above.

Note

Virus seems to have gone. Good.

Was on radio in morning - very cross at yet another stupid CBT intervention trial for children with "chronic fatigue". based at Bristol Uni. Jesus!!!!!!

I'm on at 9:45-ish, and I wasn't too happy as he tried to cut me off before I said what I needed to about research £££ going on the wrong projects.

Drove to Bloc, and butchered myself silly - lots of Orange problems, including definitely the hardest one I've done recently - UK 5c, and did it twice , just because.

Arms & fingers wrecked. Spleen vented. was planning a gentle jog, but can't be arsed.
