Orienteering race 36:00 [4] 5.05 km (7:08 / km) +105m 6:27 / km
(injured) shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265 Blue

NGOC League. Cranham, Brown.

Strapped up left ankle (sprained 8 days ago in the Lakes) - probably too fiercely, but this is the end of any concern over that foot.

Put on gear & started to jog a warm up . immediate R Achilles pain. Eh? Must be some mistake, as no pain on yesterday's test run & none this morning.

Jogged, stretched, wriggled foot, poked around. Some easing of the pain - must be just in my mind, then, or a small constriction, caused by this mythical "growth" in my heel area.

Started off fine despite slight limp, and pretty much nailed every control to no 14 (no 1 seemed very dubious - the paths weren't right surely....?), but in complete denial. Pain seemed to ease off for a while, but by no 12 it was back, and unacceptable. I then just stopped running . Binary. Like a switch, I went from sub 7 min kms to standing still.

Walked back via a few controls, getting slowly colder.

Sport is supposed to be fun, and this , running with constant pain in achilles, is nothing remotely resembling fun.

Was only 1 min down on Clive and 30secs down on Ben Mitchell when I retired.

Clive mispunched, following Jackie to her control rather than actually orienteering to his. A bit silly? http://www.ngocweb.com/results/results_16/G1splits...

Cycling 30:00 [3] 14.0 km (2:09 / km)
(injured)

Gym - bike machine. In O trousers. Whatever.

plan had been to shower & stretch & sauna etc, but I ditched all that & just beat the crap out of the exercise bike for 30 mins, at level 12. Watching appalling pop videos & some "Escape to the Country" program on the big screens, giving me ideas. . . Wye valley.... :)

It's nowhere near as good as running though. You can't really get out of breath & blow up.

Hmmm.

Running 36:00 [3] 4.5 mi (8:00 / mi) +90m 7:32 / mi
shoes: Saucony Guide 7

Good steady run on parks & roads.

Twingey right heel / Achilles behaved.

Legs - esp upper legs - felt pretty damn strong / solid. Result of rest this week?

Wonder what I could do 5/10k in right now. Pretty close to Vet bests, I'd say.

Note

TCA indoor bouldering with Ben Mitchell, plus Liz & Nelly.

mistake, really, despite being fun with Ben - major potential there, he doesn't even "climb", yet was doing some pretty hard stuff.

managed a few blue problema,s up to UK 5c just about, plus 6a circuit (with ease).

forearm, left pec, then rh Achilles / heel, all hurt. not great. Also, fingers then very sore for guitar playing later. oops :-\

No more climbing for at least 2 weeks. Or maybe the year.....? Not going well!
2 PM

Note
(injured)

Crap visit to gym

1) cross trainer - gave up at 6mins as Achilles hurt from climbing. oh shit.

2) S& C upstairs - 65 sit-ups. This hurt my left pec that I probably hurt when falling at sodding Kilnsey in the wet on a "dry"-stone wall.

3) tried jogging on jogging machine - gave up at 20 seconds - achilles. see 1)

4) Sauna - full, & only one shower working; lots of sweaty pot bellied balding middle aged men there queuing in towels for the only shower, hairy fat bellies hanging over their towels . FFS! this is not what you need.

Stormed out, cut my losses & headed home. Fail.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3] 16.0 km (3:45 / km) +150m 3:35 / km

Vile bike ride in cold drizzle (no gloves).

up whitchurch way, down Malago valley - fingers froze. Unfit at cycling.

Small diversion to re-visit the (now tenanted) house of Dave, my drummer, who died last month. We rehearsed in there, and drank beer, and ate curries, and talked bollocks, scores of times from 2007 to 2011.

Fair to say it wasn't just the rain that was running down my face as I cycled away for the last time.

Wednesday Apr 6, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

Ankle puffiness even less.

Body still telling me to do exactly sod all, and on this occasion, I'm complying.

Tuesday Apr 5, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

Ankle still puffy. Not hurting.

Achilles pain less than yesterday.

Another rest day needed.

Monday Apr 4, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

Ankle still swollen.

More worrying is that RH Achilles now hurts first thing & when used, ie. every step walking. / esp. going up stairs.

Rest self-prescribed now. Going to have a very very easy week.
