Orienteering race 1:04:21 [5] 12.8 km (5:02 / km) +103m 4:50 / km
shoes: Mud Claw 333

Midland Champs. Course 11km, 105m. 22 controls.

2nd to Clive, he was 90 seconds ahead.

One 1.5 min error (no 15) - otherwise quite clean with a couple of vegetation-induced hickups. (West part of map - struggled to move in the woods).

Fast running - on long leg (no 8) I ran 2 consecutive kms in 4:17 & 4:21. The second one through terrain. This isn't bad.

Very pleasing result - 2nd again - it's fine, I'll take this one. Great that the Helsington Barrows 1-2 for BOK was carbon copied here. Does anyone notice?

Achilles started niggling at 8, in fact hurting - ouch - Phiggle returns. Need to get a handle on this. WIll ice it later. I could still "sprint" the run in so it can't be too bad, whatever the hell it is?

SPlitsbrowser - no 11, no 13-14, no 18 and the last 3 legs are particular highlight for me .

Running (ParkRun) 22:20 [3] 5.0 km (4:28 / km) +95m 4:05 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 5

Ashton Court ParkRun - stretch legs, relax, get one more towards 50.

Nice slow start, jogged up hill, a bit faster to turn (12:37), then cruised, got a bit carried away as 2 guys passed me (Paul Jefferson B&W, & an SRC younger fatter chap) - tried to go with them, but Garmin saying I was at 3:46 then 3:30 pace, so eased off & strode in - so a speed session, really, then? Was planning a 25 minute jog. Hmmmm.

RH Achilles twinged sharply when walking from funnel to "download". WTF is going, on, I have no idea.

kms 5:17, 5:03, 4:31, 3:40 (very downhill), 3:41 (ditto)

Note

Drive up to British night champs, with Paul G, & Geoff Ellis.

eat lots ot O-Nosh, and feel pretty buggered, actually, not on form at all, shame as very sociable. Utterly delighted NOT to be running..... Achilles niggling. Hmmmm.

Back to premier inn, pretty late! - 1.5 pints of very nice beer at bar - took the edge off Half nytol .Out like a light - harbouring a lurg?
12 PM

Orienteering warm up/down 30:00 [1] 3.5 km (8:34 / km) +75m 7:45 / km
shoes: Yellow Mud Claw

JOgged / helped Joe Deaton (age 11) do his first yellow course whilst his Dad cocked up the Orange.

Fun. Huge difference between his first event & the BOK junior training 10 days ago - of course.

He loved it. Did 1st 4 controls of Orange after, as well, for fun.

Achilles niggling - possibly from those stupid two fast kms on the downhill road earlier today? Hmmm..

Note

Indoor climbing at TCA with Liz, Fenella, David.

OK, took it easy. Fenella injured her back - hmm.
Then sauna & steam room & stretch / pummel - all intact, good.

Still a bit too tired though. for my liking. Need to ease off.

Tired.

Wednesday Feb 24, 2016 #

Note

No pain anywhere today.

Better than last month, in fact. (17:58 5km).

Good-oh. No "Phiggles".
2 PM

Running 45:00 [3] 9.56 km (4:42 / km) +154m 4:21 / km
shoes: Saucony Guide 7

Ange tempted me out for an efforts session, as gorgeous day, Ashton Court - she was super keen so I found it quite tough! especially at the start!

Made her do some efforts, which pooped both of us. She wasn't able to stay near me on the longer uphill ones - an area of improvement there. She's hoping to go 20 mins or under for 5km - not there yet.

Lovely day. Legs not in the mood. Left calf & right Achilles both need a day off.

Running race (Road race) 17:38 [5] 5.0 km (3:32 / km) +24m 3:27 / km
shoes: Saucony Fastwitch 6

Aztec Fast 5km, last Winter series race

Went off sensibly, unlke last month.
Yeah - 3:30 at 1km, but felt OK, was telling Paul my "injured" clubmate to slow down! He promptly overtook me. The fool!

Decided before 2km to put him away once & for all, and km 2 was also about 3:30. This was wayyyy faster than my planned 18:30 schedule, but felt fine! Why?

Km 3 saw me at 10:33 and I realised I was on, as I was not really blowing up. Put in a burst at 4km but was unable to stop Daryl Phillips from running me down. Feeble half-kick with 250m to go, failed to have any effect, and he outsprinted me easily. 17:38 - What??????

Won a lot of beer. A lot. Like last month, left calf cramped up after, but not as bad, so all good.

Now just rehab & jogging til Sunday. Game on!

Note
(rest day)

Car and spare room full of wet muddy kit. Clean up day.

Very knackered. But intact - hurrah!

Note

No Achilles pain all day - another Phiggle ? (Phil-niggle).

Dave the drummer has been confirmed by the police to be AWOL in Holland - probably Amsterdam. we're glad he's not dead & is likely stoned, drunk &/or surrounded by hookers & probably eating curry. All of which are preferable to being dead in a ditch somewhere.....
