Note

in bed for 11 hours, bloated, snorers everywhere (Patterdale YHA).
Room emptied at 7:30, but for some reason, I didn't get up, choosing instead to roll over, and shut eyes again.

Next thing I know, it's 7:57 and I'm all alone and the coach departs at 8:30 sharp.

SHITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.............!!!!!!!!!

gobbled down my YH breakfast in double quick time. made the bus . Had to clean teeth etc at event.

Whatever.
12 PM

Orienteering race 40:45 [5] 6.8 km (6:00 / km) +250m 5:04 / km
shoes: Mud Claw 333

SROC CompassSport cup final. Helsington BArrows, Blue Men Cup,

Long wait for late start - helped me focus, drink coffee, stretch etc.

Timed start. Nick L 3 mins ahead. Made careful note of his direction & his O top.

No messing - str8 to no 1, then no 2 , passed by fast Scandi type (prob in his 30s) - he was insanely fast. so nailed no 3 , no 4 good too, then no5 had a momentary pause, - Clive cocked this one up - before finding it and breathing sigh of relief. (At this point, amazingly, I had a 3 second lead on the entire race. Had I known this, I'd have probably thrown up with nerves). But Clive was about to move into his usual gear. Ran HARD to no 7. Come on! I'm fit enough for this.

Caught sight of Nick L en route to 9, so had a breather & let his increasingly-large form "lead" me through that one, got alongside him before 10, both of us a bit stuck in bracken, he claimed he was deliberately "leading me astray"! - ha ha! Off I went.

11, & 12, good, small pause on 13, then biggest cock up, didnt' notice no 14 was high, so was way to low. 30 seconds. but then redeemed myself on 15, bang on, then lost 10 - 15secs to last control by LOSING the path thru the green I'd made sure I found - IDIOT. (made no difference tho).

Run in - left calf - need to watch it - felt like it could have pinged. 51 seconds, to the 38 sec winning Golden boot, Clive 50.

Knew I'd had a blinder & was not at all surprised to see "2nd" on slip - 2:15 down - and I knew who THAT would be! happy to be only that far down on Clive.

Tim & Charlie clearly out of sorts thru injuries, but very pleased & that I would say is my best run this year equall to Midland Champs in Feb (pre-tearing my hamstring), where I was 3rd behind Clive & Charlie.

BOK didn't deliver really, 4th place, having won the past 2 years. A big effort for a mediocre result. Well done FVO, well deserved.

Very long boring coach trip back, M6 traffic v bad. Had to put iPod on eventually to stay sane.

Very glad I have no "job" to do tomorrow, I 'm knackered!

Note

Up at 6:40 and left house 7:25, on coach at 7:45, longggggggg day......! Sleep deprived. Felt grim.

Near back seat of coach with BOK junior posse yakkering away. Do they not know that there are other verbs in the English language other than "like" ? ;) <----- note the wink! :)
2 PM

Orienteering race 1:01:30 [4] 6.4 km (9:37 / km) +200m 8:19 / km
shoes: Mud Claw 333

PFO Tockholes Blue course, after 4 hour coach journey.

Treating it as a warm up for the main event tomorrow, but to my horror / dismay, could not find no 1 (compass work not accurate enough), and indecisive. then unforgiveable error to no 2 (wrong valley ) - do I even know how to orienteer? no 3 OK, no 4 spot on, ah OK then. no 9 - map must have been suspect as I had not climbed far before I hit the path, but even so, I was clearly lost for 2 minutes. Ran up a track til I relocated, then back down again - 5 - 6 mins lost already.

Decided to "be good" at orienteering from here on, but still my route to 11 was suspect, despite me thinking it great (tho unmarked bracken I got stuck in didn't help - 30 secs).

Fine really from there, apart from the misery of 14, but it was vile for everyone, so no worries

Michael Hallet apparently caught me up at 15, but as I was finishing "strongly" (running within myself, tho - saving for the big effort tomorrow), I reckon I dropped him immediately.

61:30, 4th, rubbish, Charlie 56:50-ish, not good either, but less rubbish than the rest of us. http://www.pfo.org.uk/results-archive/2015-10-17_T...

Glad I went, & ran, tho, as was a rude awakening to my complacency at O.

Nice easy relaxing coach ride to the beautiful Ullswater. And the YHA at Patterdale, a pub meal and 2 pints of Theakstons, which left my stomach feeling utterly ghastly. Retired to bed, early, alone.

Note

TCA indoor bouldering - + Liz, very good, 2 hours. nothing too hard - just cruising lots of steady problems. A bit like an hour's run at 75 - 80% . Hands trashed by the end.

All good. Then sauna/ steam room / stretch, in prep for Lakes w/e of probably slaughter & beasting. Southern softie :-\

Note

Bed too late - midnite - after going to see band featuring Steve from up the function on drums, on Gloucs road. 2 pints & dancing, and loud. a bit silly having the second pint.

Running 1:02:00 [4] 12.83 km (4:50 / km) +132m 4:36 / km
shoes: Karrimor D30 Trail

Hard session for the week, reverse route I often do on a Tuesday, hills early on, then did the 800m stretch - mostly downhill - in 2:56 (best UPHILL is 2:57, which is vastly better than today's "effort").

Felt tired after about 40 mins, hmmm. Several "efforts" but legs not feeling great, and tripped TWICE - both times on the leg I tore in the spring! need to work on that. It could *ping* again at any time....?

Taper now for CSC w/e - two events, & Level A plus BOK's defence of Cup - quite important. Shame i'll be shit on the terrain, though. as I'm running well.
