Orienteering race 44:02 [5] 6.5 km (6:46 / km) +260m 5:39 / km
shoes: Mud Claw 333

NWO Cherhill DOwn colour coded. Blue. 6.5km, 260m
Misty. Made it harder than it would have been. Especially as 1st 10 controls were depressions - with controls tucked in them - in the mist, easy to miss by a few metres.

Start ok, a bit hesitant on no 1 (15 secs), inexplicably missed no 2 (45 secs?) , and no 3 (mist & vague - 45 seconds). Then a pretty clean run except 20 seconds or so at no 9.

Course got a lot easier after no 10 and I stretched out my legs. Was behind Richard at no 10/11 but then ploughed on and ran reasonably hard, including the hills. 44:02 meant a narrow "win" in this event that i also won last year.

Pleased. Worth mentioning Richard did THREE races this w/e so his time for a physical course reflects this.
Climbed in Avon gorge - rubbish - 2 x 6b top ropes, both wth rests / aid. Sauna / steam room / stretch at gym - met a once 28:32 10,000m runner! (Paul D'ath?). Sports massage + Liz - good - again, sauna meant legs like jelly. Good plan .....

(rest day)

FInger scanned at BRI - not bad, I turned down the offer of another cortisone injection though.

Town. ASDA. Collapsed with tea in the afternoon! Every w/e day i take naps! It's because at 50 I refuse to drop any of my sport, work, or band / social activities. I'm not 21 any more!

Running 41:00 [4] 8.5 km (4:49 / km) +75m 4:37 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 5

Lunchtime run - similar to Tues, but alone. Struggled a bit on hills - out of breath. Left calf twinged badly near top of hill - stopped. Last 1600m in 6:31 just running smoothly whilst knackered.

V busy week at work, too much for me really, still- only 2 weeks to go!

No sign of a house move :(

(rest day)

Rest day. Band practice - with a male lead singer for 1st time in AGES. We were rubbish.

I'm sure we'll be fine for 6th Dec gig. "Chas" says he prefers us to The Smyths!!! incredible. He's not noted for his music taste, tho ...

Running 42:00 [4] 8.5 km (4:56 / km) +75m 4:44 / km

Lunchtime run with Niall Brown , a great cyclist. He started fast, which was worrying, and his superior lungs & fitness showed on the hills up to suspendion bridge / clifton observatory. Steep drops to harbour, then I warned him I'd do a "tempo" mile / 1600m at the end, which i did, and he died after about 500m. I ran this "sub" one mile in 5:59, a best.

Wore new shoes - saucony Guide 7, which i got 20% off 10 days ago. they're a "stabilty" shoe, which means good for me? Achilles felt ok in them . inner right shin sore for days tho - why? weird.
