Orienteering race 1:11:24 [5] 10.0 km (7:08 / km) +325m 6:09 / km
shoes: Yellow Mud Claw

Harvester, leg 5, set off at 5:45am, in the light, had a good run apart from the notrious control 189, which was a bingo depression near a non existent "tower".

Nice tussle with GG's woman (so I'm told) Fanni Gyurkó - I caught her & her SN/SLOW rival (Melanie Slade) and we had a burnup which dropped Mel & it's fair to say we took it in turns to punch controls til our courses parted at no 13 (hers was shorter!).

Foul unrunnable forest later marked as "run" slightly spoilt the run, but i was pleased, only 3 mins down on Adam P & Tett.

inished by 7:00am! Ah its great! fry up tea etc courtesy of SYO......
12 PM

Orienteering race 36:14 [4] 4.8 km (7:33 / km) +75m 7:00 / km
shoes: Yellow Mud Claw

BKO level C event on way home, the sweaty & tired car of BOK post-Harvester, me Mark Burley & Paul Gebbett, did ourselves proud by finishing first on Brown (nice one Paul!), first on Green (well done Mark) and a close second on Green (me) (22 years older than Mark - he really shoud be picking on someone his own age!).

As soon as i started I wished i wasn't there. Nice day, sunshine, paths - my sort of event, but was obviously utterly knackered from 4 hours sleep & 10 km racing earlier. A few hesitations, and a bit sloppy / slow off the mark a couple of times, but the idea of treating it as a sprint / middle event was silly - i was Mr Plod. No bounce.

Toiled to the finish unaware that I was leading with 3 to go. No worries.

Sadly, the NGOC post-Harvester competitor had a less successful drop in day! :)

Note

Rock clinbing in Wye valley with Liz. Went up the wrong route and was on an E3 not an HVS. this gave me a lot of mental & physical stress as i tried to extricate myself from a potentially serious situation (lack of gear a big worry). Made it, just, and then went up the correct route,. but by the time I got hime at 5pm I was shattered. It was then a 45 minute turnaround and off to Surrey for the Harvester in beautiful spring weather.

Gym 55:00 [3]
shoes: Brooke Ravenna 4

Gym - 20 mins x-trainer, 5.8km which left me dripping in sweat, then about 30-40 mins steady weights, whcih i've neglected recently, plus stretching. Decided to try out calf.

Not working on fridays is good.
12 PM

Running 26:00 [3] 5.4 km (4:49 / km) +74m 4:30 / km
shoes: Brooke Ravenna 4

Steady (started easy) run to Greville smyth park from gym, nicely warmed up already from previous session, park was like sunbathing so headed up towards gorge (south side) as no calf pain & achilles only slightly grumbly. Got to bridge, stopped to examine rock face (no bolts), then cruised back feeling a bit weary from the previous session, around park, again, which was a bit like sunbathing again, then gym. 26 mins, 4:48 per km, fine, no calf pain, I'm done.

Saw Physio - James Ross
Calves vastly less stiff today. Achilles not bad either.
He did a lot of poking & pulling & stretching. Declared me non-injured, no tissue damage, but warned I've been overstretching my LHS so my RHS is not going so well. I must do each leg the same. Achilles clearly miles better than this time last year. Just need to be "mindful" of what I do & how I treat twinges.

Quite relieved, really. But boring indoor exercises year round are the only way to keep this creakbox going.

Orienteering race 36:50 [5] 5.9 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: Brooke Ravenna 4

BOK Urban ) - Nailsea
Started steady but within 3 controls realised neither of my calves were happy, Wondered at 3-4 if i was going to need to drop out. Achilles had been the worry not calves!
Continued, not really enjoying it, as couldn't really run properly. Few errors - none, really, just steady & slow, passing a few people, Adam not catching me.
36:50, with no extra effort at end,. 4 mins down on Adam & 2 on Mark Burley.
Well, not sure about this. Could barely jog around playing field as a warmdown.

THEN drove to Avon gorge and found two mates (one = Shaunagh) struggling on a 6b route I know well. Next thing i know, I'm off up it, getting higher than their high point, clip the bolt & peg, go above the over hang, feeling fine, pull on a nice jug, - which lifts away immediately. I am airborne, and wang down onto the bolt/peg.
I rarely fall, and i rarely pull holds off. But I carry on with no ill effects. And then boulder alone for another 10 minutes after Shaunagh & Steve have gone.

What a strange evening. I was going to have a booze free night but a beer was opened when I got in. Quite.

Achilles less sore, but still some ice & ibup. gel later.

Legs a bit stiff from 10k. Nothing major. Should be fine to run tomorrow.

Ears syringed by nurse - I CAN HEAR AGAIN!!!! Relief!
