Orienteering race 54:00 [4] 6.1 km (8:51 / km)
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Ovation
BOK Urban O. 6.1km, Blue, 30 controls. Frenchay.
Well I'd not run since tuesday, but my achilles were sore every morning when I got out of bed, but even so I was optimistic - even cashing in my £70 Easy runner voucher that morning to get some awesome road racing shoes. Did this in trainers tho.
Achilles sore from the off. Ignored the pain up to a point, and certainly cheated at no 7 (sorry world ) - did Andy Munro cheat on that one too? - big error at no 12, but was already losing interest, then lost total interest on the long forced road leg to no 15, and realised it was game over - LH achilles in particular was just not getting any better & was probably worsening. Stopped running at 30 mins. Walked. Missed out no 20 then enjoyed the hospital nonsense while shuffling around on painful heels. I realise that I really enjoy navigating - I can't resist it. I even went to the last two controls! Couldn't help myself.
Ticking injury box & will stay that way for a while. Will call physio on Monday but am not interested in paying out £££ to try to keep the illusion that i can run.
What's caused this? Running in brand new Innovate Mud Claw at JK relay - the heel tabs on these are difffernt to my other pair, & my trainers - they are not split and i wonder if they aggravated & bruied the tendons, as both are sore. Time for some time out. Sad, cos I was fit, but there you go. I have other doors to go through, and I'll do that. Music & climbing,. And work.
Ice thru thick layer of ibuprofen gel tonight... and beer - numb the pain.
Comments & helpful suggestions welcome, please , fellow O-ers. cheers.
