Orienteering race 47:13 [4] 7.25 km (6:31 / km) +160m 5:52 / km
shoes: Mud Claw 333

BOK Tyntesfield. Blue. Started well but Clive Hallett put me off as a loop took him past me en route to no 1. Settled down, being cautious about calf and also some doubts over my "fitness", and carved away at each control. Wimped a bit on hills, and slopes. Reluctant to leap over anythin (calf). Took good route on the long leg, and stuck to the task - the only leg I equalled Clive's time (8:14). Desperately flogging mysel around the final controls in a doomed effort to beat Pete Ward's time - a slight miss near the end meant i was 1:03 behind him, a slightly disappointing 3:40 behind Clive, and a whopping 6:13 behind Adam Potter, who is now in a completely different league. http://www.bristolorienteering.org.uk/sites/defaul...
My best run of the century remains, sadly, Tyntesfield February 2008, 5 years ago, when from nowhere (I'd not had much of a BOK profile up to that point), I was 1st BOk runner home and nearly won the whole thing - 6.2km in 38! not as fast today - tho the course was tougher today (just).

Note
(rest day)

Resisted all temptations to do anything, after last saturday's debacle led to heinious calf trouble at the Sunday O event CSC qualifier. Pub later with Liz & Karin. 2.5 pints. I like my local. Calf "stiff" but that's a world away from grim pain. A bit like saying people with ME are "tired".

Climbing (Bouldering) 1:30:00 [3]
(injured)

TCA for a fix of bouldering, 9 days since my last visit. Went OK in that I climbed reasonably, but sadly my old tendonitis from summer last year was troubling me a bit. Didn't ruin the sesh; got up some tricky problems, but am so far away from what I was doing a year ago (working my 1st 7a.... and redpointing 6b+), I can't see Sicily being any more than a nice sunny trip... and what's wrong with that!

Gym (treadmills etc) 52 [3]
(injured)

Gym for cardio fix. total of 52 mins on stair machine, (23 mins), cross trainer (15 mins), and treadmill running - very cautiously, due to stupid left calf. Started at funearal pace, increased to eventually 12km/hr, which is slow, for last 4 mins (10 mins). No calf pain at all but hardly a test compared to a road run, a bumpy undulating O race or a strenuous muddy 10km cross country. Pleased, tho.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

After late night watching The Australian Pink Floyd at Colston hall, who were AMAZING, and feeling shit in the night, i decided to take a proper rest today. Liz to massage legs later. Learning gorgeous jazz pieces for Julie sesh tonight. Going stir crazy, but if I become a musician full time one day, this will be my life! who knows the difference between E7+5 and Bdim/E chords? Not me. You can lose half a day working on this shit. Oh dear. some stretches, some calf lifts (gently) - feeling less sore than 2 days ago.

Cycling long 1:20:00 [2]
(injured)

Lovely sunny day, my last week off, so decided to take advantage & go for a bike ride, seeing as my left calf is knackered.
Up Whitchuech way, to Horse world, then Whitchurch, then back down to the gym. See next entry. 90 mins but two rests - one to strip clothes off & text, the other to drink, eat & , urm, text.
3 PM

Gym 50:00 [3]
(injured)

Slightly shorter (no leg pressing...) gym sesh, took it fairly easy, as tired from ride before, but OK. Boring as hell, of course. I'm really seeing the benefit now. Muscles filling out, shoulders getting ripped. Good, but will it be relevant to running? Should help climbing, in opposing fashion, but won't directly make me a better climber. Pah.
If you want to be a better runner / climber, go running / climbing. Sadly I can't do the latter, and the former is still in it's infancy this year. Grim.

Out to Colston hall to see Oz Pink Floyd Show. Blown away. Quite honestly, this is what life is all about. Must see Roger Water's The Wall at Wembley. Not going would be a ridiculous, pitiful thing to do. Money doesn't matter. Experiences like these do ... to me, anyway.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Calf pretty bad but not as terrible as I'd feared. Limping, especially up gradients while walking. Some cycling, which wasn't 100% good. Physio - he said I'd know within 48 hours how serious this is. No major trauma in calf, which I could have told him, but definitely in a frail state :( bit worried Tyntesfield wont' happen now....
