Orienteering race 50:18 [5] 5.53 km (9:06 / km) +310m 7:07 / km
shoes: Mud Claw 333

BOK Brierley, the PLudds, Blue course (following 90 mins' car parking duty). Quite muddy set off 2 mins behind Matt Leathwood, whom I caught at no 2 where both of us messed around for 45 seconds or so. Fairly clean after that, tho no 3 was a bingo and I was lucky to only "lose" about a minute near/in the circle. Running OK but nothing spectacular, but not tiring. No concentration issues. It seems a lot of people found the last 2 controls troublesome - I think I got a bit lucky on both, no 16 was surely in the wrong place, and no 17 I had no real plan but just dropped into it.

Surprised to find I was less than 2 mins behind the winner (Clive) and ahead of some usually-faster runners - the splits confirmed that I was not very fast, just consistent. PLeasing. http://www.bristolorienteering.org.uk/sites/defaul...

Running warm up/down 23:00 [3] 3.5 mi (6:34 / mi)

Steady run to see how calf was 3 days after Richard Hollingsworth had dug it to pieces! All seemed OK. Easy session, came back refreshed to find band practice cancelled.

Running race (fell race) 1:31:00 [5] 9.0 mi (10:07 / mi) +610m 8:21 / mi

New years eve Betws y Coed fell race - started steady with Simon & Mikey, and joined by Phil Winskil & later Dave Peel. Zanthe missed no 1 so we caught her & she stayed with us. Quite wet underfoot! also rained a bit. Mikey & Phil were getting away on the road so I accelerated past Simon, who didnt' respond. Sadly this was all our undoings - Simon took a vastly better route to the monument & beat us all by 6 mins!!! Meanwhile we trudged up the moss & steep woods with frequent mother's meetings to work out where we could be - Zanthe had the best map. Dave Peel picked up the pace leaving the monument & i followed, feeling fine. Mikey passed me, but i still felt great. Sadly couldn't run down hill fast enough, and lost contact by far too much - ran like a train on the roads at the end, and only pipped Mike cos he ran thru the main entrance! Great race. Neil N & Rob Little did 81 mins, Tim 82, Simon 84. Sure I could have been with Tim & Simon if I'd stayed with Simon.....

Bed + tea after, shower, rested up.... then major calf treatment from Rich Hollingsworth, followed by big sound check & PA set up, Piano quiz, then Disco - DJed til 1:30am when i finally went to bed exahuasted! 5 pints in me plus cava. Bye bye 2012.... that was VERY good. 2013 has no chance of living up to that one!!!!
