Definitely needed a day of rest.

Friday Jul 27, 2018 #

Note

Via Ferrata Colac with Dav & Soph, who've bought a place over here.

I can see the appeal. They also live in Bath .....

did another 3 miles / 220 climb afterwards, then realised i needed to rest up.

Note

A highlight of the whole trip - highest point reached to date but also a fantastic day of walking, scrambling, snow fields, glacier, and a legendary Via ferrata right up the west ridge of the highest point of the Dolomies, Marmoladaa, 3343m.

Glad to get down safely - no one else was soloing.

Note

2 hours colecting controls on foot.

still very very tired from yesterday ! (Owain looked far fresher after doing the A class!)

As a result of collecting, OMM a) bought me dinner, b) got me pissed, c) gave me a bed in a room full of snoring OMMers for the night in a nice apartment, d) gave me a free t shirt, e) invited me to get involved in the SW OMM in October a part of the hill team.

It's who you know! :-)

Blag of the trip. Result!

Orienteering (OMM Alpine) 3:11:28 [5] 21.1 km (9:04 / km) +1245m 7:00 / km
(injured) shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

Alps OMM run/OMM with ACm - over did it! controls 90 & 91 were never there; spent 20 mins enjoying attacking & reattacking no 90, before it dawned on me....

definitely the hardest run of the year!

injuries (L knee , L groin hurting) still there, but no worries!

Garmin / strava says half marathon PB! it's true i did a tiny loop at the end (hobbling before the tourists ) at the olympic ski jump place, to make it 13.1 miles.

knee surviving. descent rather painful......

Note
(injured) (rest day)

I've moved to Peio near swiss / austrian border, where the paths are flatter and there is uplift & lake walks.

Visit to hospital on tuesday revealed no fractures, but severe bruising and I was ordered to rest / ice / ibuprofen gel.

knee is on the mend. Must not rush it. I've accepted it now & no O races, steep stuff or via ferrata for a while! (the latter involves high steps up & down -very bad for me).

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Massively needed rest day. yesterday's walk pretty stupid, really. as knee now pretty colourful. but not swollen further. bruising just coming out?

unsure if i should seek an A& E dept.

I need things to go right for a prolonged period of time, please.

real chill out day (apart from flat battery - hint: do not charge Garmin inside your car if you're not driving it). Food shopping then campsite all afternoon brewing & eating.

Note
(injured)

Walk about Madonna, 10km, up to nearly 2500m, including scrambling over rocks & descents that my knee did not like.

Plunged knee into a lake at 2200m with tadpoles in it - knee certianly felt beter after that!

On descent, having to protect knee so much that eventually my (middle) back went into spasm, but not badly. Final warning? Take the hint Phil & STOP DOING STUFF.

shouldn't have done this but kind of glad I did. overtook & burned off some Swedes with O bags/kits etc :-)
