Prep for big NYE gig.

Friday Dec 30, 2016 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

apart from walking to shops (well over an hour on feet, plus 22 mins stagger back laden down) (osteopath said walking was a good idea for my injury), felt a bit off colour / tired / snotty / cold (as in cold not a cold), so took it easy.

it's time to try another jog, really, but motivation is zilch.

(injured)

Indoor climbing with Steve, my Spanish buddy.

All went very well - storming it.

2017 maybe more about the climbing at this rate....

v steep 6b flash.

6b+ repeat.

started a 7a+ . got to bolt 3. superb.

buggered myself & loved it.

Wednesday Dec 28, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Walked 45 minutes

2 x cycling 18 mins each way.

Still got congested nose etc. Boring.

Back from Switzerland - rest day as cold goes away now.

Monday Dec 26, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Much improved. Fab walk to 2000m near Helen's flat. defeated by hard steep snow so only a subsiduary summit of Dent du Combatte.

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1497688...

tedious evening flying home with zillions of others. Geneva & Bristol airports rammed. Bored of it (easyjet). 1st world problems.

At least I'm still alive, unlike most of the world's celebrities.

Am not happy btw, about George. Can someone check up on Phil Collins & Mark Knopfler, please?

Sunday Dec 25, 2016 #

Note
(injured) (sick)

Xmas day

booze 11-12am.

Short nice steep walk up hill behind Laitmaire.

Fab roast chicken & champagne etc in Helen's lush pad.

Cold very definitely going. Hurrah!

Saturday Dec 24, 2016 #

Note
(injured) (sick) (rest day)

Still horrendous - forced into car & driven to Chateau D'oex, where I went to bed & Helen went for a frustrated stamp up a 1700m hill .

Got into Jacuzzi & steam room later - the latter helped my clogged up sinuses etc.

Running 30:00 [3] 5.3 km (5:40 / km) +30m 5:30 / km
(injured) (sick) shoes: Brooks Ravenna 5

Awful, awful, shit run - why?
from Helen's Geneva pad to botanic gardens, round & back. https://www.strava.com/activities/812636619

injury grim, but better than a month ago. Still.

Fears became apparent as I started sneezing uncontrollably, then went into a fast decline into a bad cold/virus - bed - actually passed out in the afternoon.

Very very very early night. OH SHIT. one unhappy sister.

Thursday Dec 22, 2016 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Slobby day in Geneva . A bit hungover. Eventually made it out to supermarket.

Not sure why I felt so lethargic today, but tomorrow' entry explains.

Wednesday Dec 21, 2016 #

Running 38:07 [1] 5.1 km (7:28 / km) +44m 7:10 / km
(injured) shoes: Brooks Ravenna 5

Flew to Geneva. Helen's birthday. Geneva Xmas / b-day Hash run. Ridiculously slow. https://www.strava.com/activities/812636599

Sociable. Xmas lights. Injury hurt - but at that pace, no worries.

Sauna & lake (dunk) later (inhumanely freezing). Then piss up (white wine)) at cheese fondue with 15 hasher s.

Top stuff!

Tuesday Dec 20, 2016 #

Note: Off to Switzerland tomorrow for 5 nights (or more, depending on EasyJet's performance this time round)

Can't wait! Xmas in Helen's pad near Gstaad.

My life is amazing sometimes.

Merry Xmas to all who read my "crap" on here......!!

UCR indoor climbing, with Clio, a new "partner".

Climbing v well, flashing everything, right up to 6b+ also a 6b onsight.

Clio got pumped out before me, so after she left I did some more bouldering until I noticed was unable to hold on to anything at all. Oops.

Wondering how much the "babe" factor had to do with my performance, she was startlingly nice (and of course far too young for me).

Humbug.

Monday Dec 19, 2016 #

Cycling 1:05:58 [4] 21.1 km (3:08 / km) +180m 3:00 / km

Good solid hours bike ride - a half marathon distance.

up stockwood cycle path, then over south Bristol grim housing estates & around & to some dead ends / country lanes (too risky)

Bum sore by end. Felt quite fit, considering.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Got out of spain only 30 hours late.

flight was supposed to be 1pm, then told 3pm, boarded 4pm, took off 5pm, home 8pm, Tim tett turned up 10pm & said "haven't you got any bread?"

sleep:9 hours.

Saturday Dec 17, 2016 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

up 6:30am, at airport 9am, still there 5pm.

flight cancelled.

off to holiday inn, Elche, Alicante.

hit the hotel bar and then passed out 10pm.

Friday Dec 16, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Final day climbing - Zoo crag, 6 routes, from 5+ to 6b, all soft for the grade; both of us flashed the lot. despite tired skin/fingers etc.

Rained off. we were knackered anyway.

Thursday Dec 15, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Abdet - new crag. Dave Harrison was running up here earlier in the year.

5 routes, the 4th, a total sandbag - graded 6a but felt "like E2 5b" (steve's words). Or F6b. see consensus here. http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/c.php?i=52230

I gibbered & rested & gibbered & whined until I got to the last bit & gave myself a talking to.

Steve nabbed it by the skin of his teeth!

Fail!

Then skipped up the "6a" next door in about 3 minutes each! two slappy 5b moves & ALL OVER.

Good day.

Wednesday Dec 14, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Great day climbing at Guadalest

Multi pitch fun up the huge main face.

Led a three star 6a which isn't hard - but was so much fun.

Massive abseils on my fab new 70m rope to get off.
steve & I moving like a pro team.

Beer.

Tuesday Dec 13, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

day 2 of trip.

Nice new climbs on left side of huge cag, including a desperate thin slab 6a+, which I had to dog.

more climbs later, where I felt good then got stuck on a sandbag - thought it was 6a/6a+; actually more like 6c.

binned a carabiner & lowered off and hit the beer.

Monday Dec 12, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

up 4am, flight to Alicante, hire car, straight to crag 100m from our refugio. https://www.facebook.com/escaladaenguadalest

Did 3 pitches despite head spinning with tiredness, including a 6a we did last year - Jana - quite strenuous!

Steve did 4 routes; I opened a beer & as the sun went down tasted the great taste of euro cragging trips.

early bed & 10 hours sleep followed.

Sunday Dec 11, 2016 #

11 AM

Note
(injured)

Walk up Crook peak with LIz.

not been up here since summer 1993 when I was about 5th in the race in 20:09, 2 mins behind pete james who won.

Liz worked on my back & buttocks afterwards, as an Xmas "present" - hope it's loosened me up. Spain tomorrow - 4am alarm.

Stiff, tired, grey & grim.

Friday Dec 9, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Back hurt last night at gig. I should have seen the other osteopath this week, I reckon. I cancelled. Hmmm. Not good. I'm not in a good way, back wise. All "out" & fucked & it seems in 2016 I just have to suffer cos no one is able to sort me that I trust, for a MONTH.

Back bad. Climbed at Hengrove Leisure centre wall - bouldering . Quite good fun & only £5. Back / leg hindering me, but not too much.

That concludes my training / prep for Spain on Monday. I'm ready.

Thursday Dec 8, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Note: Osteopath booked for Monday 9th January. as I'm away next week when Lisa is here.

that's a long way off.

So this is a long layoff.....

I'm not too down. I have a climbing trip, then a general Xmas / ski / Jacuzzi / sister in Geneva trip to look forward to.

Life will improve. Just no running.
11 AM

Running 8:00 [1] 1.0 mi (8:00 / mi) +10m 7:46 / mi
(injured) shoes: Brooks Ravenna 5

after nearly 3 weeks rest, decided to try a jog.

OK, bad. Bad. no more running this year.

So if LIsa Kennard the osteo can't sort this, my career as a runner / orienteer is over, period. Can't see her til new year now.

Oh shit.

Cycling 41:15 [3]
(injured)

Cycle: Stockwood circuit including around the residential roads getting "lost".
http://www.mapometer.com/cycling/route_4447410.htm...

Leg not great, but totally OK to cycle compared to earlier "run".

Trouble is... I really am not a big fan of cycling. I don't like or enjoy it much, certainly gets boring alone, too.
Like swimming. Oh dear.

Hmmm.

Note: have put on 3kg in last 3 weeks. I'm not 68kg, I'm nearer 71.5.

So I'm now a vast bloated heffalump too.

Wednesday Dec 7, 2016 #

Swimming 24:00 [4] 1.0 km (24:00 / km)
(injured)

Good swim at Hengrove pool; hadn't been for 2 weeks, leg hurt last time I think, but not this time. Breast stroke 100%

36 lengths, or 1km, having planned 800m . or is it 40 lengths? You do the math.

lengths (25m) with 60 - 90 secs recovery inbetween

4 warmup - always feels shit - arms crap.
12 - at a good pace
12 - ditto
rest
4 - flat out in 2:56 (100m)
4 easy to recvoer
4 nearly flat out (2:57) (100m)
12 PM

Walking 1:00:00 [1] 3.5 mi (17:09 / mi) +20m 16:51 / mi
(injured)

Walk to & from pool etc. Walking having been recommended. Leg hurt less than usual.

Monday Dec 5, 2016 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Leg not feeling too bad so cancelled osteopath, may jog this week (later on).

not getting hopes up.

Sunday Dec 4, 2016 #

Note

INdoor climbing at UCR - tired & a bit hungover

climbing v well considering. really getting into it.

Saturday Dec 3, 2016 #

12 PM

Note
(injured)

Bracing walk up Beacon Batch (Mendips) with Lynne - 2.5 hours. Nice.

then off to Reading for a night away, a gig (watching), 5 pints & a curry. had to go home at 12:30am as the others are hardcore & went on to an after hours drinking den.

woken by them about 3am as they crashed back into the house. typical.

Friday Dec 2, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Indoor climbing at TCA with Liz, Nellie, Lynne, & Jenny.

Properly bang on it today, was on cracking form. that's what 2 days off results in? One move I did today was definitely UK 6a - just latched it, no way is that 5c. This means that technically I am as good as ever (2012). But can I turn it into route climbing?

How good's that? This good (March 2012). https://youtu.be/h_hJKcXqmfE (nb. Adam Ondra does 9a on Yosemite twice in one day; this is only 7a) - the UK 6a crux move is at 1:35 - 1:50. Took me 3 visits & about 8 goes to nail it. . . . . this route remains my only 7a (E4 6a in English money) & probably my only 6a move mid route. (think it looks easy? it's overhanging the whole way - not vertical.....)

the past 3-5 weeks of regular bouldering is paying off. Now burning the ladies off. Normally, I'm the crappest. But I weigh seemingly nothing, and my fingers are now strong. and I'm cutting loose and core strength is being used & improving. Yay.

Walking 2:16:00 [2] 11.4 km (11:56 / km) +217m 10:54 / km
(injured)

Very cold clear morning - brisk walk from home to Maes Knoll, up & over, and back over again as dropped my hat on summit, amazing views, pics on FB soon.

Sadly , possibly cos of 20 miles bike ride yesterday, my injury hurt / was uncomfortable for a lot of this walk, esp on gradual downhills..... caved in & booked Osteo for next week - and GP also, as this is getting ridiculous.

But - lovely to be out on such a stunning winter morning - sub zero temps.
