Note
(injured) (sick) (rest day)

Back bad again in night.
Dreadful night. awoke 5:45. Up 7:00 At NHS Bristol south walk in centre by 8am - first patient.

Given antibiotics eventually.
Cough horrendous - could open an Evostick factory (sadly Tim T doesn't do attack point).

I will paste in my facebook update:
Day 7 of lurgy - terrible night - up at 7am and at walk in centre at 8:00. Had to sit through the charade of Nurse giving the spiel about "it's probably only a virus" (urm, what, it's gone green....), and "most antibiotics are ineffective against 90% of common winter colds blah blah blah. I promptly coughed in front of her, and .... yeah, she got it, Could've saved 15 mins by saying "As a full UK taxpayer who knows exactly whats wrong with, me, 7 days broad spectrum penicillin based antiobiotic please". But no. "Hold this prescription for a day and don't start taking unless you get worse" .OK, thanks. A lot. Straight to Pharmacy. Straight down my neck. Immediately. (oh - after a 30 minute diversion *back* to the hospital, as she'd not signed it!!!!!!) . Seriosuly, the NHS struggle & she was ill herself, so I don't want to sound ungrateful. Anyway, what a happy Xmas & new year. Lemsip and Night nurse on the tipple list, earplugs & bed 10pm. Oh did i mention my back? No. It's also hurting. Goodbye 2014.

(sick)

Another rest day, and after a 24 hour no coughing period, my lungs erupted at lunchtime, and I coughed til i nearly threw up.

Back to bed :(

Very bad later - will set alarm for 7am and go to NHS walk in centre :(
Green goobs tearing out of lungs.

(injured) (sick)

Woke in the night & felt different. Finally got back to sleep & realised cough & sinuses were clearing a little. Could this be the turning point?

Still had a quiet day, just about venturing out to get supplies from chemist etc, then an easy day. Back still v sore. Will ask Liz to give me a massage.

Feeling almost human again after 4 days of utter boredom & symptoms. Good.

Note
(injured) (sick)

Cold no better - in fact I'm starting to cough & it's hurting. I have a trip to Spain in 5 days time. How am I supposed to be well for that if i'm only just developing a chest infection now?

Spent entire day housebound & often on bed.

This aint' fucking funny. Worked my arse off for months on end, hating it, making £masses, deliberately for my future, was DYING to leave, now I've left I am laid up completely.

For those that don't know my background, I fell ill in November 1997 and could not recover AT ALL, and was very sick for over 6 years with post viral fatigue syndrome. This is hopefuly a mere blip but it feels really horrible. http://www.murrayphil.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/pvfs.ht...

Back slightly improved after 48 hours of rest & ibuprofen. I suspect I can "untick" the "injury" box in a few days time, and would try a jog, but....

Note
(injured) (sick)

Another really horrible night, sinuses sore, dont' know what's allergy & what is my bug. Back terrible 1st thing, (and v painful in night) but almost bearable - managed to walk slowly to newsagant, do some washing up, and then, after a big rest / nap in bed, finally took a shower - first wash in 72 hours.

I look like I've been to the north pole & back, it's not good.

Note
(injured) (sick)

Cold just as bad - terrible night. Things got much worse when bending over in kitchen - two pops in my lower back, game over - laid up completely, unable to straighten back. Spent all day on or near bed. and taking huge amounts of painkillers & lemsips etc.

Watched 4 hours continuous TV alone later.

December was awful last year - broken hand, strained finger, etc - but this is a complete write off.

Thursday Dec 25, 2014 #

Note
(sick)

Went down with very bad cold overnight, spent day near bed, napping properly (ie sleeping ) both am & pm.

Wednesday Dec 24, 2014 #

Note

Climbed at Wyndcliffe quarry with Steve - 8 routes! - from 5+ to 6b / 6b+ - not that i flashed the harder ones. Sun out for a lot of it- amazing,

Sneezing a lot , esp when belaying - sneezing onto his rope! I sasume it's cat allergy, but in fact, it wasn't.

Tired when i got in, barely had a drink - no Xmas spirit here, just wednesday evening. Sooooooo soooooo glad i do not have to go to work anymore. Ever?

Tuesday Dec 23, 2014 #

2 PM

Running 30:00 [4] 6.5 km (4:37 / km)
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 5

run from gym - interrupted by bumping into Laura from my club (who was ill/ hungover) (but still very nice), then a phone call from estate agent (no exchange toady - dammit - 2nd Jan now?). Rain. Felt OK. Shin fine. inner left ankle a bit "wrong". Then straight into gym.....
3 PM

Gym 40:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 5

Gym - buttock strengthening, 2 x 3 x 15 situps, stretching. 15 mins cross trainer (after a 4 mile run this was tough), then 10 mins uphill on runniing machien at advice of osteopath - very tough - 10km per hour speed, incline about 8 - 10%. Engaging buttocks. TOtally buggered by the end.

Sauna / steam room - horrendous . Best to do this WELL AFTER a run / race. Boiled alive, blood sugar dropped to 6.6 which is v low for me but for most people, no bother.

Pigged out & made tea when i got in. Party later...... yikes

Monday Dec 22, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

Was planning on doing somethign running / gym related, but by the time I got back from an unavoidable trip into town (which was, frankly, hideous), I was feeling beaten up & not in the mood (cycled home with stuff in a rucksack into the wind.....). So i took another day off. This is called "listening to your body".

Sunday Dec 21, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

9 hours sleep and feeling human again. Even so had an easy day & only went to gym to do some glute "strengthening" work, no sauna / steam room as out of use. Shower, home, TV.

Weird, feeling not shattered on a sunday night & no work tomorrow either!!

Saturday Dec 20, 2014 #

Note
(sick)

So it seems it wasn't a hangover - 3 of the 4 of us out last night were ill all day today. Bad pint?

Went to bed at 9pm with a Lemsip. Missed on a mates' Xmas drinks & nibbles party & the annual Climbers Xmas bash (missed 2nd year in a row....).

Hmm.
12 PM

Running 49:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:08 / km) +120m 5:42 / km
shoes: Yellow Mud Claw

VERY hungover - wimped out of O event in FoD. Walked to get car. Ate bacon. Still felt shite.

Drove to Leigh woods - did reverse loop and got lost twice! Quite nice really. ended up on not one but two small steep paths I didnt' know, going across the steep valleys - very hilly "run" (walked up one of them). Glad I went, to get booze out of system. Bed when I got home.

L achilles & R shin both not perfect; past caring. Looks like house may be A-OK for next week, so will focus on that now I've LEFT WORK. Yes I have no job and am VERY HAPPY about that.

Friday Dec 19, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

Last day after 8 months, at Lloyds bank. Good. Busy. Out + Andy J Williams band later - pubs & a "gig" - Zen Hussies, amazing.

Drank too much too quickly & after 4 pints I was utterly gone. Cycled home - awful night - felt ghastly. Can't take the beer anymore. Not unless I drink it slowly.

NO MORE WORK!

Thursday Dec 18, 2014 #

Note

Climbed at Redpoint with LIz. Feeling v tired, no "zip". Managed to get up a couple of 6bs, tho. Just.

Desperate for time off, oh and to buy my house. Last day at work tomorrow.

Tuesday Dec 16, 2014 #

7 PM

Running 37:00 [4] 7.5 km (4:56 / km) +65m 4:44 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 5

STeady rainy enjoyable dark run around BS3. Including some park, on grass - but mainly road. Definitely feeling bouncy still. Am i "fit" ?

Shin OK, maye was just a blip? Achilles OK but aching a bi later. Doesn't hurt in morning so not bothered.

Got canned at work today, & one of my teammates is ignoring me, so not in the best of moods. Still desperately trying to buy my new house next week. Sick of people saying things can't happen "cos of Xmas" !!! LIfe goes on. Get a grip, sheeple!

Monday Dec 15, 2014 #

Orienteering race 55:00 [5] 7.8 km (7:03 / km) +90m 6:40 / km
shoes: Mud Claw 333

Compass Sport cup final. Long Valley, SN, Blue Cup.

Terrible start - Mark Bu's car was locked and my stuff inside it, which led to an epic 30 minute panic trying out all VW keys from key dump, searching around the car etc etc until Mark Bo. found them in a wheel (that we'd all checked!!!). Left me with little time to calm down, tho i tried.

"Safe route to no !" i was told - I agreed. I would take a safe route. There was no safe route. Tried to go west but deep water & the start triangle being away from the actual start (!) meant i was unsure where in the woods i was. I kept finding otther controls that clearly weren't mine. The forest road beyond was no use as it had no way of knowing where on it you were. I couldnt' see the gully on my map as the control circle part-obscured it. Evetually I ran north til I relocated on a very long gully, then paced down & finally found control. 4 mins lost. Mark S, & Clive also lost many mins here. If anyone knows me on facebook, see my GPS spaghetti there. "It's over!". and it's hardly begun.

Shattered already, I just tried to run nornally, and, to my surprise, very quickly, a pleasant and happy rhythm settled in, as I nailed most controls fine, made my own luck a few times, was accurate with compass. Due to no running since Tues, I felt sprightly, so bounced along happily, feelign fit. Quentin, on a a slightly differnt course (not that i knew it) "caught" me at no 15 but to my alarm I actually beat him into the control site - oops. Then - feelign extremely fit - I held him off across the woods & forest road crossings en route to 16 (where i got a bit lucky - but again, made my own luck, actually stopping and checking forest road direction against my compass).

Later, 17-23, the strain of mentally concentrating started to get to me, but i held it together despite the offputting loudspeaker, and made no cock ups. Leg of the day was in fact 22 when i was up the short hill in no time at all and onto the open area where i simply ran everyone i could see down. Apparently i won this 2:38 leg by 18 seconds!

Flat out on run in but no idea how my mate Martin Ward took 7 seconds out of me? Tim tett despite 5 hours sleep & a The Who gig in Manchester the night before, had a more flawless run & was way ahead, but Clive, Charlie (cold), and Mark S all had mediorce runs. Disappointed to be only 6th and beaten by 2 M55s.

Of course none of this matters as BOK retained the CUp! Suddenly all my issues meant nothing & I smiled all the way home.

Running 34:00 [3] 4.5 mi (7:33 / mi) +50m 7:18 / mi
(injured) shoes: Brooks Ravenna 5

Lunchtime run to totterdown & vic park & windmill hill, in original trainers. Left calf horrendously stiff. even worse - Right shin sore - before i even ran!

Shin pain the whole way. Caused by what? Lack of orthotocs on Sunday?
Ticking injury box due to shin pain. Wont' run on roads again til its gone.

Will rest now til Sunday (apart from climbing etc). Injured? Iced it later.
Then went to this, http://www.dicksclimbing.com/collections/frontpage...

- brilliant, love these guys! Super motivated.

Orienteering race 1:06:04 [5] 6.0 mi (11:01 / mi) +220m 9:53 / mi
shoes: Yellow Mud Claw

BOK Blaise Blue course - long! 8km / 280, quite tough.
PLanned by Geoff Ellis so good. Consistently interesting; never boring, and tho i know Blaise, this was good.

Route choice to no 2 I may have got wrong.

Ran steadily all the way, a bit slow overall esp. on the steep slopes, but havign gigged til 1am the night before with a singer who had broken his foot running for a train on apavement, and with the CSC final a week away, i wasn't going to risk injury.

No major errors, a couple of small misses, 66mins which was OK but KingTim did sub-59 which was excellent - he knows the area.... but so do i! PLeased overall with my fitness, which held up well.
Forgot decent insoles so had to run (retire?) with half insoles; achilles starting hurting 10 mins from end but carried on. Hopefully OK.....

Running 43:00 [4] 9.0 km (4:47 / km) +90m 4:33 / km
shoes: Saucony Guide 7

Lunchtime run, to gorge, past where the mother & baby fell down a route i know well (Giants cave butress) to their deaths 48 hours earlier (a few bouquets).

Ran the timed km in about 3:56, tho the end marker had worn away.

Over bridge, down thru woods then stayed on the river not Floating harbour, the cobbled path, ran v hard in sun on flat here, a sustained burst towards M-Shed.
Hence 4/5 for effort. Utterly knackered after, didnt' recover. Buggered!

Wore "new" Guide 7's - again, pain on inner rhs Shin. Hmmm. Too "stability" for me? will leave them another 2 weeks then try without orthotic.
