Cycling 28:00 [3]

Cycling to local shops for DIY purposes, including a hill (out of Snuff mills ) - cycled all the way up it!

Unfit.
3 PM

Running 27:34 [3] 5.0 km (5:31 / km) +64m 5:11 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

First "training" run on Stoke Park with O map (Pur Down / Purdown).

Just fecking awful, felt really unfit, jeez.

I knew it was bad, but this is terrible. I'll need a long rehab & not sure if I should do November classic - M50S?

Missing Brit sprints / middles wasn't a "choice", it was a complete done deal.

Orienteering race 40:58 [3] 4.2 km (9:45 / km) +191m 7:57 / km
(injured) shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265 Blue

NGOC league, Highmeadow / Headless Hill

Green - very short course - 3.7km/140m (no way? my garmin said 191m) , but felt tough & long.

Only jogging, and by necessity as i have lost lots of fitness, and the ability to get over terrain - fell over - scary in my condition.

Got lucky on a few controls esp no 6. This was also the toughest leg & I had to walk the lot.

So very little time lost nav-wise.

Won by miles, which is just embarrassing as i moaned to BOK people about my summer of misery before i went out. I probably should have walked the lot.

no 1 in wrong place, btw. Ben MItchell agreed.

Cycling 35:00 [3] 9.55 km (3:40 / km) +138m 3:25 / km
(injured)

Cycle to Southmead hospital - to avoid the horrendous rush hour traffic. Good move. Hilly up to Horfield.

my (Type 2) diabetes 6 monthly appt - I'm stable. No news. HBA1C stable at 56 (was 60 in january when i was a "bloater" - 72kg! 66kg today).

No cure; no answers. Whatever.

am planning on NGOC league saturday - as UBOC taxi, mainly, but may try the Green. Or Orange. Just to see how it is being out there.

Cycling 15:00 [2] 4.0 km (3:45 / km) +53m 3:31 / km
(injured)

Put bike back together after not riding for well over 2 months. pumped up tyre. decided to test it out by investigating my new neighbourhood: Stapleton, "village", north/ NE Bristol. BS16 1FB.

My unfitness is off the scale - and i'm not feeling well enough to start training. I get very out of breath. & racing heart. Nice to get out tho.

I'm seeing my specialist in 2 weeks time - the one who came round each day when i was in hospital - and will ask him about the long term effect on my resilience this operation has had, at my age, and with my suspect medical history. There is no "determination" to get back to being a "great second placer" . There is a desire to be well & happy in life.

Until then, I'm doing no running & not entering any races, & if i go to O, i will be walking / gentle "jog". This is fine. CompassSport cup - i won't be second to Clive. BOK captain, take note.

Oh - saw diabetes nurse last week - it's stabilised, but she told me i've lost 7 KILOS since January. I'm sub-65kg. Awful. mind you, 72kg was quite fat.....! :)

Note
(injured) (sick) (rest day)

Felt ill all week - sore throat "moved" to sinus, with asthma & pain on inflation (my weakness). Now on antibiotics, but not sure if they're going to help me.

Removal men moved big stuff to my new flat on thursday, but am still camping in old house. had to rest all day today. I have 4 days left. Not looking good.

Symptoms of my gastric illness are returning, which could explain why i'm feeling unwell. Not as bad as early July, but still - very worrying. If they cut me open again - I can't bear the thought of it.

Whatever, I'm looking at retirement from all sport at this rate, which would be minor if I'm going to be hospitalised again. Seeing specialist later this month.

Spoke to Tim Tett today said i may be in with a shout of selection. When's the race? i said. 3 weeks' time he said (to Tim, that's a definite attendance timespan) . ha ha ha HA HA HA HA ha ha ha ha. I withdrew immediately.
