British Long, 16th.
Very very mixed day. Felt good and relaxed beforehand but panicked a little on 1, nailed the nav but ran past the control! Same story on 2 and 3 before Nic and Joe caught me. Orienteering 99% of the leg fine then just not finding the flag and panicking. Something to work on. Ran ahead to 4 but regrouped to 5, messing up significantly then really forced myself to settle on 6. Felt better here, much more focused and flowed nicely through all the way to 12, just feeling it a bit in the rougher terrain. Led our train through this then dropped them up to 14 and orienteered really well and confidently back through to 22. Hill up from 21 started hitting me a bit and drifted a little on 22. Good through 23 but lost another 2 mins on 24 just being lazy but also not backing myself. Poor compass out of it, rushing and was way too low on 25, the same on 26, not quite sure how I missed but pretty sure it was compass. Then tried to push hard to the finish.
Physically a reasonable performance, tired obviously, but kept chugging throughout, annoying that there was no water when there definitely could have been. Too many mistakes early on though, very undisciplined but still orienteering most of the legs well, need to tighten so much more in the circle. Then just need to focus on keeping composed at the end, not get lazy, but I guess that's just experience that will come from doing more proper longs. Enjoyed it though, good course and some definite positives.
Some good, some bad:
