Scottish ,Six Day, Day 1. First EYOC selection race
Start: 13:37
Course 34: 6.1km 45m
After a week at cairngorm and a couple of weeks of geeking, I felt really ready for this. Started poorly, didn't think about any of my plans and didn't even begin to follow it. Messed up 1 straight away. running backwards and forwards t before finding it losing ~1min. Then on to the beach path to 2, very hesitant so again losing time. Slow to 3, being way too careful, also overshot, so was closer to 4. Fastest split to 4, the found 5 well enough but could have been faster. Main mistake was on 6, lost a good, 3-4 mins here, really poor, no concentration and didn't check anything at tall. Andrew caught me up here, he seemed to be (and was) having a good race. We took different routes to a few controls, pretty sure his were faster by the looks of things. Steady through #7 and #8 then small forest path in to 9, slower again, the straight to 10. Pathed it to 11, maybe was faster running so that was ok. Poor route again in to 12, went the long way around paths which was slower, then followed the form line in. Straight through 13 and 14, people apparently had problems with the map here but i didn't find any. Spiked the green control then easy to the last control and finish.
In hindsight, should have pushed a lot harder in the last section, but a multitude of thoughts were in my head, chief among them was 'I haven't had a great race, may as well save my energy for other selection races'. Needed to concentrate a lot harder and focus more on the map than the running.

Very easy jog in the pouring rain, still annoyed and disappointed, stretches too.
