Running (Warm Up) 17:44 [2] 2.02 km (8:47 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Jog up to the start, very easy, overtook gustav so basically beat him. Drills as well

Orienteering race (SSD1) 42:26 [4] 7.65 km (5:33 / km) +45m 5:23 / km
spiked:12/16c shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Scottish ,Six Day, Day 1. First EYOC selection race
Start: 13:37
Course 34: 6.1km 45m
After a week at cairngorm and a couple of weeks of geeking, I felt really ready for this. Started poorly, didn't think about any of my plans and didn't even begin to follow it. Messed up 1 straight away. running backwards and forwards t before finding it losing ~1min. Then on to the beach path to 2, very hesitant so again losing time. Slow to 3, being way too careful, also overshot, so was closer to 4. Fastest split to 4, the found 5 well enough but could have been faster. Main mistake was on 6, lost a good, 3-4 mins here, really poor, no concentration and didn't check anything at tall. Andrew caught me up here, he seemed to be (and was) having a good race. We took different routes to a few controls, pretty sure his were faster by the looks of things. Steady through #7 and #8 then small forest path in to 9, slower again, the straight to 10. Pathed it to 11, maybe was faster running so that was ok. Poor route again in to 12, went the long way around paths which was slower, then followed the form line in. Straight through 13 and 14, people apparently had problems with the map here but i didn't find any. Spiked the green control then easy to the last control and finish.
In hindsight, should have pushed a lot harder in the last section, but a multitude of thoughts were in my head, chief among them was 'I haven't had a great race, may as well save my energy for other selection races'. Needed to concentrate a lot harder and focus more on the map than the running.

Running (Warm down) 10:01 [1] 1.32 km (7:35 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Very easy jog in the pouring rain, still annoyed and disappointed, stretches too.

Orienteering (Head-to-head Relays) 34:05 [3] 4.37 km (7:48 / km) +87m 7:06 / km
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Paired with Chris G off the o-400 results. It was either 2x legs 1xrun (recovery) or vice versa, swapping in the middle. Ran well, 1 on #17 losing about 1:30-2 but apart from that was going very well.
10 AM

Running (Warm up/down) 20:00 [1] 2.21 km (9:03 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Easy jogging from the buses to the start and stretching/drills

Running (Warm up/down) 35:00 [1] 5.0 km (7:00 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Warm ups and warm down throughout the day
11 AM

Orienteering (Classic Race Practice ) 45:20 [2] **** 6.11 km (7:25 / km) +114m 6:47 / km
spiked:11/13c shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Really lovely area, fantastic for a classic (even if if was shortened). Did not race this at all, very easy trundle round, didn't seem worth it as I knew i would make mistake if I tried to go too fast as this was my first real o training of the week. Found all the controls pretty well, a cock up on 10 losing time and poor route on 7 cost time as well, but pretty clean and a nice jog round.
2 PM

Orienteering (Middle Race Practice) 15:42 [4] 2.46 km (6:23 / km) +47m 5:50 / km
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Made a real hash of this, tried to go way too fast. Too early for this, had very few plans on the course and should have ran a tad slower and just nailed it. Scrappy throughou but main time loss (3:30 or so) was on 7 near the end. A shame because it was a lovely place. Need to switch on a bit now.

Note

I have been training just no tome on holiday to update. Basically ran every day, varying between easy and intervals, off to cairngorm today, a tad tardy but getting there and then off to the Scottish
2 PM

Running (Warm up/down) 20:00 [2] 3.43 km (5:50 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Made it to cairngorm, warm up and down pre o-400

Orienteering (O-400) 4:58 [5] 1.23 km (4:02 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 190

Not technically orienteering, but it was o training so cladding it as orienteering. 3 laps of 400m memorizing 4 controls on a map and then having to mark them on a blank map. Really good work and tough for a first session (for me) of the week. Shock at the end with a far more intricate map, so really had to concentrate. Definitely made 1 or 2 errors.
