Ten Peaks Long
Finished, just!
All the way with Jim Allen (Lymm Runners)
Cramp in quads after 3 hours (High Raise) was a worrying sign that it was going to be a long day, but salt tabs and water fixed that problem, at least temporarily. Climbing was slow and descending also slow. Great End control was on the wrong summit so wasted time visiting the right summit(s) before giving up, later spotting the flag on the way to Scafell Pike. Warm with little breeze at times meant a constant struggle to drink enough. Found Foxes Tarn trod no problem. Descent to Wasdale took an age as I am completely useless on loose scree. Another group we met on Scafell took 10 mins out of us on that stretch alone. Climb up to Pillar felt dreadful. Still half the course to go! Honister checkpoint offered no comfort apart from access to drop-bag. Cold boiled potatoes and cheese pieces, no salty snacks. Over to Skiddaw hardly running at all. Then the climb up Skiddaw. So slow and getting slower. Feeling sick at this point. Could not eat or drink anything for last three hours.
Result: one battered body and one battered mind.
Slowest time ever on this route (PB 14:06 in 2013)
Second-longest run ever (time not distance).
4 UTMB points.
12th place.
Blisters.
No injuries so far.
Complete re-think needed training-wise before 100km in September. I cannot face another 10 plus hours of such torture (that's assuming the first 5 or more hours are bearable!).
