1 PM

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: VJ Supra

Warm up before SOL4.

Orienteering race 49:53 [5] 5.7 mi (8:45 / mi)
shoes: VJ Supra

SOL4 at Glen Nant.

Lovely new area on a lovely day. Asthma giving me a bit of grief so ran steady but suffered a bit on the hills because of it.

Ran virtually every leg straight and only a couple of mistakes.

Overshot No9 slightly and lost about 20secs.

Deliberately went to the right of No 10 so I knew to turn left when I came over the edge of the slope, however the spurs below the control were so obvious it would have been better to run straight and save a bit of time.

Main mistake was at No14 when I lost touch with the map 2/3 of the way to the control and drifted left. Was looking for the large crag on the hill to the NW of the control. Didn't see it but was beside the hill it was shown on and headed SE to the control. 45secs lost.

Didn't / couldn't really attack the course but happy enough with my run. I wonder how different it would have been if the cloud had been down and it was very wet and windy! A shame more people didn't come along 'cos it was really good - and the map printing was fine!

Easy week required now before the Scottish Champs on Saturday!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Kalenji Kiprun Trail XT6

Warm up before SOUL at Dunstaffnage.

Orienteering race 29:01 [5] 3.9 mi (7:26 / mi)
shoes: Kalenji Kiprun Trail XT6

SOUL4 at Dunstaffnage.

This should have been a really good race as it was a lovely area for a run, but it was spoiled by very poor map printing. The map was printed at 1:7,500 scale which is far too large a scale for urban orienteering as the paths through the houses were impossible to see. The colours were also wrong as you couldn't see the surfaced (brown) paths against the rough open, the un-surface paths in the woods and rough open were so faint you could hardly see them, but more importantly the ink rubbed off the paper resulting in blank areas where ever the map was folded. Lots of stopping and peering at the map through the magnifier on my compass to try and see what was going on.

I seem to have lost a lot of time between 3 and 4. I did hesitate a bit before the ruined building but nothing I was aware of.

Took the wrong path between 4 and 5 and lost about 20 seconds.

A few other runners cutting through an out of bounds area going to No 7!

Unfortunately I had folded my map across Nos 9, 10 and 11 earlier in the course and when I got to these controls the map was unusable, especially between 10 and 11. I knew that No 11 was on a knoll SE of No 10 but the map was blank between the controls so I headed off in the general direction, found a tarmac path which I couldn't see on the map and followed it. I ran past the control and ended up in the small wood beyond the control, turned back to try and find something on the ground which I could find on the map and blundered on to the control. Lost 1 minute and the race, but I guess it was just an urban race.

Not good at all!

Mrs P fell during her run and her map landed in a marsh resulting in her map being in very poor condition with large blank patches all over it. Not sure how she got round using it!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.2 mi (8:20 / mi)
shoes: Kalenji Kiprun Trail XT6

Orienteering race 30:52 [4] 4.7 mi (6:34 / mi)
shoes: Kalenji Kiprun Trail XT6

CLYDE Evening Event at Linwood Moss. Really enjoyable run round on a well planned course. Although I know the area well, I still had to made sure I concentrated on the navigation.
Legs a bit stiff and sore from yesterday's hill race so didn't overdo it and ran steady.

7 PM

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3] 2.2 mi (9:05 / mi)
shoes: VJ Supra

Jog from the car park at Edinmill to the start of the Whangie Whizz Hill Race and then a run along the first part of the course and back.

Running race 37:38 [5] 4.0 mi (9:25 / mi)
shoes: VJ Supra

Whangie Whizz Hill Race. Got caught out by the comedy start along with many other people and started nearly at the back. Spent the entire race overtaking other runners but didn't overdo it too much. A lovely evening for a run in the hills. Very dry and actually finished with dry feet which has never happened to me in a hill race before.
Starting to feel human again which was good and reasonably pleased with my run.
Hopefully didn't overdo it too much and will be okay for SOL 4 on Sunday.

Running warm up/down 9:00 [3] 1.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: VJ Supra

Easy run back to the car park from the finish.

Tuesday May 9 #

Running 41:00 [3] 4.5 mi (9:07 / mi)
shoes: Kalenji Kiprun Trail XT6

Found an excuse for a site visit to Overtoun and then went for a run round the trails in the estate and Lang Craigs Wood. Lovely day for it.

Legs not too bad, but quads sore. Tomorrow's race will be 'interesting'!

7 AM

Road Bike 1:03:00 [3] 15.0 mi (4:12 / mi)

Cycle to work. Fairly tired after the weekend, but not as bad as I thought I'd be. I guess I didn't / couldn't run that fast at the Relays.
