11 AM

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: VJ Supra

Warm up before BOC Relays. Legs not working.

Orienteering race 44:48 [5] 4.4 mi (10:11 / mi)
shoes: VJ Supra

BOC Relays. Found myself running Leg 3 for a CLYDE M40 team.

A long, lonely plod round this one. Didn't see anyone else on the course until the end when I managed to pass a SYO runner and pull us up a place.

I was really tired and was very slow, finding the rough terrain very hard work.

Went slightly wrong going to No 2 when I went too far left, but relocated quickly.

Lost a bit of time at No 3 when I stopped short of the control and took a while to sort myself out.

5 - 6 was really tough in the brashings.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: VJ Supra

Jog to the start of BOC 2017 and then a few strides trying to get the legs to work.

Orienteering race 1:06:45 [5] 7.0 mi (9:32 / mi)
shoes: VJ Supra

BOC2017 M60L. Throat sore, legs heavy and asthma giving me grief, but managed to force myself along and had a good battle with Jethro over the first half of the course then things went wrong.

Took if fairly steady through to No 6 and was just leading then, however didn't see Jethro's route alongside the deer fence to No 7 and went slightly right of the big hill and picked up the paths which had more climb than Jethro's route. Lost 30 seconds.

Was going to take the tracks between 8 and 9 but decided at the last minute to go more or less straight. Another 30 seconds lost to Jethro. Really stupid doing this as I can run fast on tracks!

Then it all went very wrong. I went right and headed to the fence to get to No 10 and got confused by the ridges and doubled back, did a loop and then found the control. 2 minutes lost and now down in 3rd place.

Ran fast to 11 and 12 to try and make the time up and managed to do this, however I think I overdid it and could feel the fatigue starting to kick in.

Was too low at No 13. Another minute lost.

Too far right on No 14, another 30secs lost.

Very slow going to No 17 as I was really tired.

The run-in was a long way and I was really starting to scuffle badly.

Very relieved to finish 3rd and win a very nice bronze medal. Was 5mins behind Jethro and 3 behind Peter H (who seems to have a habit of beating me in the Lake District races!). It would have been nice not to feel so ill.
