Mrs P wanted to try out her sore hamstring after her bad fall at SOL3 last Sunday so it was back to Linwood Parkrun.
Woke up with a bit of a sore throat and coughed up some green gunge from my throat which maybe explains why I've been running so badly over the past 1 1/2 weeks. Decided to try and run steady and not overdo things and run between 18.30 and 18.40, but after the start I had a group of 4 on my heels (as I now seem to be the unofficial pace maker for those who want to try and break 18.30.) including Tony from Kilbarchan and Ian from North Ayrshire. Ran at a reasonable pace then had to pick the pace up a mile from the finish to drop the remains of the following group. Surprised to run 18.22 given my sore throat.
The preparation for the British Champs starts now.

Warm up before track session at Linwood track. Felt grim.

Track session at Linwood track on a cool, windy evening. Session was 5 x ((400m (60secs) + (800m (90secs)) + 400m.
Legs heavy and sore and breathing terrible at the start but I improved as the session went on and finished quite well. The last 400m was run in 78secs which I haven't done in a long time.

Cycle to work. Valve on front tyre failed not long after leaving the house so had to change the inner tube.

Working at Overtoun again, so went for a run from there over to Barnhill Wood and did 4 laps of the figure of eight path. Paths now quite overgrown with quite a few low branches and debris underfoot, and a couple of rocky bits, and a few hills of varying length and gradient. Almost counts as a terrain run.
Kept the pace under control but still felt sluggish and tired.

Warm up before intervals with the athletic club. Legs like lumps of wood!

Intervals with the athletic club on the trails on Linwood Moss. Session was 6 x 5mins (2mins jog recovery). Each rep started at the same place and the idea was to run the same distance each rep, then 2 mins jog back to the start. We.ve run this session before and we would hopefully see an improvement.
However I was totally gubbed and was way off the back of the group. I had no energy and my legs were very sore. Breathing was also really bad. A terrible run!

Was hoping to do a heavy week of training this week but I'm obviously very tired and run down, so instead I'll have a couple of weeks easy before the British Champs.
