O race 54:29 [3] 4.73 km (11:31 / km) +106m 10:21 / km
ahr:133 max:163

Final Bay of Fires event at Little Childs Creek - ran here 2 times before but think the area used this time was thicker than before. Took the much wider road route to first control to avoid a marsh and vegetation - was about a minute slower to the fastest times but perhaps used less energy - very few saw this as an option.

Slow and steady for the next few controls as found the bush hard going - then did my second and last poor control for the whole Tassie trip - made a parallel gully error going to 6 where I met a very lost WA competitor - he decided to follow my relocation plan to go back near the last control and have another go on a compass bearing - we both finished back at nearly the same spot before I twigged we were in a parallel gully(and thereby rescued him). Lost at least 7 minutes. BTW a lot of other people made the same error so wonder if the map is right here and the vegetation is mapped correctly - albeit there was a more conservative route choice climbing out of 5 to a knoll which those that nailed the control did.

Rest of course was thick except the last 2 controls - was slow and steady - those that did fast times here found better vegetation to get thru. Did the fastest split on the last two controls where you could run. Enjoyable event to finish off the carnival but a bit of a repeat of easter for me - two good runs and then one control that wrecked the cumulative time - altho shows how close the competition is in our class. .

O race 37:08 [3] 3.89 km (9:33 / km) +79m 8:40 / km
ahr:137 max:155

Bay of Fires day 2 - a tricky middle distance course with only hiccups on controls 9 and 10 where I dropped about a minute on each - 4 th place but about 3 minutes behind the top 3. Very nice course.

O race 16:53 [3] 2.03 km (8:19 / km) +16m 8:00 / km
ahr:140 max:162

Bay of Fires day 1 and a bush sprint on a 1:5000 map with 2.5 m contours - took a wider route choice to one after leaving the start triangle and crossing the top of a erosion gully to hit the road before realising the control was back on the other side of the gully - but the road allowed me to scoot around the end of the gully anyway to the control - had a slight fall and roll after getting of the road and then a bit lucky as someone else was punching the control when I was close. Only slight miss was on way to 7 in a very flat area with extra tracks (we had been warned about the Tassie pastime of hooning) - saw on the compass I was going along the wrong track away from the control and quickly corrected so maybe lost a minute. Again the bridesmaid as 2nd place a few seconds after first.
