O race 1:09:00 [3] 6.12 km (11:16 / km) +234m 9:28 / km

Oceania Long at a Woodhill map called Rototoa. Had a good safe run and enjoyed the area. Advertised as 4.6 kms but I took quite a few track options which explains extra distance. 17 controls felt like a hard mental exercise trying to look for safe route options. Finished 17th when we left out of about 70 competitors.

Oceania Sprint and 12th place out of a field of 60+ Ground quite wet and a passing rain shower during my run. Couple of minor wobbles but ran fairly smooth and felt good. winner was an amazing 3 minutes ahead. Got one over Lost Richard.

walking 2:32:00 [3] 7.0 km (21:43 / km) +300m 17:53 / km

Whangamumu Trail which climbs over a big ridge then down to the old whaling station - and back. Track pretty eroded in parts and quite slippery on the areas that had exposed clay (some of the steeper bits). Recent land slip on one section which we scrambled over. Nice sunny day in parts. Met some Melbourne based orienteers near the whaling station. Trip based on recommendation of fizzy red travel service and a local we met. Retired to Russell afterwards for a well earned affogato then back to the apartment for a Speight.

Run 37:34 [3] 5.01 km (7:30 / km) +136m 6:36 / km

Another coastal path run but a bit further this time. Track a bit slippery after rain overnight. Humid for running. Getting ready for another day trying to pronounce NZ place names.

road cycling 2:29:00 [3] 28.47 km (5:14 / km) +235m 5:02 / km

Rail trail from Kaikohe to Okaihau and back on part of the Twin Coast Cycleway. Peloton of 4 on rented bikes. Cool and a bit windy. Lots of cows, tree ferns and some difficult gates to get your bike thru. Very pleasant. Visited the world renowned Kawakawa Hunderwasser public toilets beforehand as a picture opportunity.

walking 3:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (22:30 / km) +300m 18:57 / km

Visited Urupukapuka Island and walked up and down dales on a windy day. Ferry took us to Otehei Bay - grabbed a coffee - then walked. Stopped at Urupukapuka Bay for our cut lunch before tackling more hills. Is NZ ever flat ? Time and distance an estimate.
