10mila - Sträcka 1 (LS-37 1)

Performances like those are way easier to handle after the race if it's an individual competition. Sending out the rest of the team 20 minutes behind the lead made me think quite a lot the hours and days after the race.

The first minutes of the race itself have been absolutely fine, finding a good flow to the first control and punching the 2nd one as the first runner. Passing the first TV-control as number 6 sounds of course great, however, that was only 20 minutes into the race. The following two controls have been solid, had no problems to keep up the speed of the few guys in front of me.
Leaving the swamp before #7 the disaster started. I thought we were entering the hill way more to the north and wasn't totally sure about the position a few moments later. The plan was to spot the yellow bare rock area and the path just before the control. Not seeing those but latest running down to the cliffs, all kind of alarm bells should have been ringing. My intention of better taking a stop and lose some seconds instead of generating a mistake of some minutes suddenly stopped working. Ending up at the wrong forking I had no clue, where I was. After a few seconds of confusion I started running back towards some lights I saw, finally locating myself in the re-entrance with the path.
The continuation has been stable until #15 where I again just runned instead of checking the map again and again. It intended to be even the bigger mistake, eventually leading to a total desaster.

47 days to Jukola, time to use those days for appropriate orienteering training in Trondheim!

Every rule has an exception - so has it now the rule of "Mr 1st leg":
