I may do my first-ever snowshoe race next weekend, so started 'training' today. Trotted about 1/4 of my route, and moved 'with purpose' for all of it. Face-planted once.
What a beautiful evening. Went out at sunset. Gloppy snow piled on the trees and shrubs around me, twinkling lights of Anchorage below and beyond the forest, the southern Alaska Range and Cook Inlet volcanoes in silhouette, the pink of the sky reflected in the waters of Cook Inlet, and a bit of pink glow giving definition to the contours of the trail (until it got dark and I groped a bit). Those 38 extra seconds of daylight must be lifting my mood already.
