Walk with Sandy and Blythe on a beautiful afternoon. Part way up Wolverine trail. Soft snow. Then came home and pigged out on warm oatmeal chocolate chip cranberry walnut cookies. Thus, the weight posting. Added a couple pounds in Portugal.

orienteering race (POM Long) 1:30:17 intensity: (11 @0) + (10:36 @1) + (36:45 @2) + (38:14 @3) + (4:31 @4) **** 4.46 mi (20:15 / mi) +539ft 18:10 / mi
ahr:117 max:140 spiked:6/13c shoes: INOV8 OROC 340

Nominal 5.2 km. Finished 34/45 in W50. Fastest time on course was in W45 - 46 minutes. Fastest in W50 was 49 min.
Quite rocky, but a bit more running than the previous races because a couple long legs, and I really enjoyed that running because it was slight downhill. Generally poor navigation. But I finished. Good: found all, ran well in a couple stretches, was on time for start, stuck to my plan a couple times when I was tempted to change, read control descriptions at start. Poor: Lost focus on #2 and hadn't looked at clue so wandered; didn't have a plan for #4 and was drawn off course by others; ignored a stone wall where it didn't match the map on #6 - should have known I was disoriented. Next time: In open areas, sight control feature from afar and run to it. Learn how to estimate distances by sight (so I identify the correct feature to run to). Always make a plan. Enlarge features. Read next desc when leaving previous control. Run harder (I really don't do that much when nav is hard).
Overall for POM, I finished 29/55 in W50 for 4 races combined. Ending in middle of pack is largely the result of attrition -- only 7 of the 26 behind me finished all the races; the others mp'd or dns one or more. But I was only beaten by one person that mp'd a race.
My primary O goals for this trip were: finish every race; don't gravely injure myself. Secondary goals were to not be last, and be middle-ish of pack. All primary and secondary goals achieved. Non-O goals included drinking lots of port and sherry; and I didn't taste a drop of either !!!
