Walking to and from blueberry picking. Picked 'til we were mildly hypothermic and fingers frozen. We both launched full quarts down the steep hillside. My quart's lid stayed on. Dan's bucket hit a rock and exploded.

Plus ~5 min at the start while GPS located itself. 'First ascent' of Lazy Mtn (Peak 12/50) with Lorene and Carol. A gorgeous evening but a cold wind. Lorene had stashed a cooler of beverages for enjoyment afterwards. There were too many (full) bottles on the picnic table for my comfort when car after car pulled into the parking lot. They were arriving to view the state fair fireworks, which were not spectacular from that distance.

strength 45:00 [2]

Moving into new office at work. Full set of shoulders. A few of Lucy's easy guts.

McHugh Peak and another I'll call Rabbit Peak for now. The latter was particularly wonderful. Peaks all around. A nice batch of sheep in upper McH valley, which looks quite inviting. I feel substantially stronger climbing than I did a month ago. Those were peaks 11 and 12 on my new 50 in my 50s quest.

Wolverine trail is still closed so we biked the single track instead of biking to a hike. I'm not very skilled yet but noted that I retain some technique learned in the 80s.

orienteering race (Goose Lake Score-O) 59:52 [3] ** 4.0 mi (14:58 / mi)
spiked:9/11c shoes: Salomon speedcross 3

The group of controls to 'get' seemed obvious so headed to the pile of high-pointers in Russian Jack Park. Landed in a couple swampy spots so squoosh-squooshed for most of the race. I won for the women. Meet was followed by the annual meeting. There was one more nominee for at-large members than needed, and one less than needed for event planning, so I vacated my training role and will help fill the schedule and get permits for next year. Not my top choice but better than an election.

ahr:93 max:127 shoes: Salomon speedcross 3

Started biking to the takeoff for an assault on Rusty Point. But the trail was closed due to a recent bear kill of a moose. So, Plan B: a walk on the single track trails. Raspberries galore. Humid after a couple days of rain, which followed a VERY dry summer.

Nice hike; above treeline after 10 minutes, with views full of tempting slopes and ridges. Spitting rain and a little breezy so it was cool. Easier to get down the loose rocky slopes than I'd expected.

Bike to Wolverine trail head, then slowish hike to the cairn and back down. With the Sneads.

Mostly a trail run. Simple navigation, tho' that didn't stop me from wasting a few minutes on unmapped trails (that I have wasted time on also in the past). I continue to be in grim running condition.

Carol and I started out to South Suicide but it was in the clouds so we turned left to Ptarmigan Pass, then Peaks 3, 2, 1, and Flattop. Took our time. At least 3, 2, and Flattop count toward my new 50-peaks-in-my-50s quest, so my count's up to 5, at least.

orienteering race (relay 'sprint') 30:00 [3] * 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Short relay. Skipped from 2 to 4 on my first leg, so had to go a long way back to 3. Fun format allowed for some socializing.

Yay me! I hiked up Wolverine after work. Last time was prob 1982. Not fast. Biked to W turnoff. Gorgeous evening. Met a nice young woman on the top. Thought I'd invite her over to tea, but she eluded me on the way down. I told her about my new resolution to hike 50 peaks in my 50s (starting at age 56), and that Wolverine was #3 I think. She wondered if I had been hiking all these years. It didn't occur to me 'til later that my inspiration came from trying to set up the Mountain-O - which reminded me how wonderful these mountains are and how little I have explored them. Looks like it's 5.0 mi RT to/from the Wolverine turnoff, and 6.0 RT from there to the top of W.

Biked up Middle Fork to the 'no bikes' sign. Heat and tired legs and stomach full of water killed me. Had to cool under a tree for a while. Then hiked up Williwaw valley, up to the top of the Ballfield, then along the ridge on the north side of the Ballfield, and back to the trail and bikes. Gorgeous day. Blueberries are a week from ripe. Saw three of the huge dark bull moose again. Checked out a bunch of control locations. NOW I feel ready for last week's (cancelled) Mtn-O meet.
