Note

Completely missed this date by leaving LAX at 11 pm and flying west across the date line. Our departure for Tassie was the least rushed departure I think we've ever made for a fly-away vacation. Of course, that's because Dan did the lion's share of the packing.
Reading others' logs, and some work emails, has inspired me to set some goals for 2015. I've never really done that before, or maybe just not really committed to them. Stay tuned for a week or so. In 2014, I did commit to making my job work for me until Feb 2015, when I reach 30 years at the same firm. In Feb 2015, I'd check back in and decide whether to re-commit or get out. I think I've done better than ever before at practicing the serenity prayer -- changing what I can, letting go of excess emotion about what I can't change.

Brr. Didn't push myself - just trying to stay warm and battle the foggy glasses. Navigating by trail and terrain, without a compass. Found all the controls easily, exc one that took some searching and one that I think is missing. Nice trotting on the trails and walking/trotting/brush beating in the woods. Should have worn something less airy on my feet. A lovely afternoon.

Yay for me for motivating out in the dark. It was probably the hot chocolate at 5 pm that did it. Felt not too bad (tho' I was going the same speed as a walk). Even trotted half way up the gasline hill. Likin' my new headlamp. Finished my last serious work deadline before heading for Tassie. Time for 2 weeks of getting into shape.

I've been meaning to pick up these controls for a couple weeks. Finally got started too late today, so it was pretty dim when I got to control #1, which wasn't there. I couldn't read the map anymore by #2 without a light. And I didn't wear enough clothes to be walking around looking for controls that aren't there or I can't see because it's dark and my glasses are fogged. Gave up after 4. Only retrieved 2. Hurting hip and fat and out of shape.

Trail trot in the dark. Felt decent on the downhill. Footing tentative in the dark, but that didn't slow me down. Finished some of the major work push today, so hope I'll have more energy in the evening.
