Walk up Middle Fork trail with Dan. He was carrying a heavy pack so we didn't go very fast. Left hip is achey from recent trotting. Need to figure out what to stretch. Also do some hip stabilizing strength work.

I'm proud of myself for motivating out for a little trot in the dark. Warm and windy. I made it around the south rim - panorama loop without stopping. I tried to go a little fast down the panorama hill.

It's warmed up! And we got another inch of snow. Nice trotting weather. I really need to stop eating for a couple hours before I go out tho'. Not feeling so great trotting is not made more pleasant by undigested food in the belly. Trotted on the single track. The Hive to Hornet's nest (1st half) to gasline (and decided I couldn't go home yet!!! :-) ) down Janice's Jive and back up Lower Llama to gasline and home. Trotted most except for hills on the way home. Stopped a couple times for lame reasons, but once to admire an interesting birch snag. Tried to pay attention to terrain and describe to myself the features I was seeing and what they'd look like on a map. I find that terrain really disorganized and confusing -- not sure whether it's senility, lack of aptitude, or it's actually a total jumble.

Note
(rest day)

A slug-O day. Tired today, didn't do anything. I think still a bit tired from walk 2 days ago and not drinking enough water while standing around at xmas parties.

Walk with Dan. Still very cold - about 5 degrees. I've grown accustomed to the cold, and am trying out my contacts to reduce foggage;; it's so very nice not to have to deal with foggy glasses - easier to keep my nose warm if I can tuck it in and still be able to see. Lovely walk up Panorama and Denali View, across White Spruce, down South Rim to Panorama and home.
Lots of sweating on the way up, a bit brisk on the way down. Having trouble staying hydrated between the cold and then going to parties each evening and not drinking enough water.

Note

Nuthin'. Going-away party at our house for Ingrid. Third party we've hosted in a week, two work-related. All three fun, and glad to do it. Not good for my exercise regimen, tho'.

Well, I got myself out the door. It took almost an hour of stalling, and about 100 pistachios. Walked up south rim to golden grass trail, which was nice because I was walking toward the moon so the trail wasn't in the shadows. South Rim would have been in the shadows. Squeaky snow. Goal was to get out of the house. Lovely almost-half moon. 4 degrees and a little breezy. Had NO inclination to trot, but that's OK. Gotta motivate to do my new shoulder exercises tonight.

Walk on single track trails at dusk. 4 degrees but I was warm. Massage, physical therapy, entertaining for work, laziness, and thinking I'm getting sick are getting the best of my training... At least I seem to have beaten the crud.

same as sunday. up south rim trail, across panorama and down hill on panorama. after dark. felt relatively good tho certainly not fast. trotted all but about ten steps, and actually ran part of the downhill. maybe it's running in the dark -- usually feels pretty good. plenty of light on the snowy trail.

Trot at dusk. New snow. Up south rim trail to panorama back to home. slow slow slow, but probably didn't trot any less than I did before my two-week trainnig lapse.

OK. I'm going to get back on the exercise track. walked with Dan up panorama, denali view, white spruce to blueberry hollow to south rim and home. 10 degrees a lot warmer now, after a week of 0, than it did a couple weeks ago. Walking felt good.

Started to check out control sites for a little training course we'll set for next weekend if the snow stays away. It was COLD, about 0 degrees. Lots of interesting overflow in the bog, and saw some places I haven't seen before. We're trying to make this a water-themed course, setting controls at interesting water features. (Course will be named HOH-O. Part of a pre-Christmas series.) We might have to go to plan B for next weekend. Dan stepped through the ice in one location, which confirmed that thie spring/discharge areas aren't really safe spots for controls, and sending us home for the day. Temperature and humidity management were a challenge for me today. and the bloody nose and ice-up glasses. Well, a fine first day back after a week off with strange nausea and a work deadline. I look forward to checking the area out again on a warmer day.
Hmm. Funny looking heart rate... Probably related to not feeling so great out there. The ticker's been doing its own thing lately.
