Point Reyes Station to Bear Valley Visitor Center. Then Sausalito to Marin Headlands hostel. Gusty wind, unfamiliar road, traffic, and unfamiliar load were challenging.

Thursday Sep 28, 2017 #

walking 3:00:00 [1] 8.0 mi (22:30 / mi)

From Point Reyes hostel, down Muddy Hollow trail, 'round Limantour Spit, south along beach to coast campsite and back trail to hostel.

mountain biking 45:00 [1] 8.0 mi (5:37 / mi)
shoes: bontrager bike shoes

Down the dirt road to beach and back. Got a good look at Tule elk.

loaded bike touring 50:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:09 / mi)
shoes: bontrager bike shoes

From Olema to hostel. Dismounted part way up hill because I didn't know how steep it would become and didn't want to keel over before unclipping. Pushed the beast up the top of the hill, then coasted down 17%! grade to hostel.

Biked back to Berkeley for Mike to work on my gear. He FIXED my cleat issue with application of some grease to bolt threads and underside of bolt head so bolts could be screwed all the way in and hold cleat from twisting as I tried to twist out of pedal. Hurray to Mike! and Thanks for teaching me a bit about greasing bolts.

Assembled bike at Oakland airport then biked to brother's house in Richmond. Used Google maps for route choice. Navigation hampered by invisible screen and inaudible sound, plus quick-fading phone battery. Was able to revert to orienteering based on physical features (home relative to distant cliffs) for final 8 miles. A hair-raising day of biking thru unfamiliar city with a loaded bike and tenuous grip on my route and gears that needed adjustment and foot that didn't want to release from the pedal. But I made it without hitting anyone or falling or being hit. One downhill in Oakland combined with all above factors left me with a bit of PTSD.

Test ride. Surly is a smooth, stable ride--like a cloud Used ALL my gears to get up the hill to home. Made two flights into the thicket while trying to unclip from new pedals; won't be taking them on tour.

road biking 2:03:23 [2] 25.0 mi (4:56 / mi)
shoes: SIdi

Back in AK. Thru Southport, then full Campbell Creek trail (for first time EVER) and down Chester Creek trail to HDR. Didn't feel very inspired despite a gorgeous day; is that an effect of the lumbering Trucker bike vs my lighter Bike Friday?

River loop from Riverton. HOT. Lost 3 of the past 4 days to buying mom a new car and getting rid of the old (not before it died while I was driving it down the sawmill parkway tho'); but it was time well spent.

Riverton to MA border and back via Sandy Brook, with Dan and John K. Fun ride on beautiful day. Lots of speedy bikers out on a Sunday morning.

I am liking Strava for tracking my rides and serving as my memory. Torrington-Norfolk-east Goshen-Marlborough-Colebrook-Riverton-home. Stop for a BLT in Norfolk. VERY nice ride after heading north from east Goshen. I got a bit cool during hour 3, and maybe didn't drink enough, so felt pretty drained upon finishing.
