Slow trot in about 4 inches of lovely new snow. Bad traction but nice just the same. Felt slightly less bad than two days ago. Toby the cat and I went to the vet to weigh in today. He's on a serious diet, and has lost 2 lbs in a month. I thought I'd diet along with him, which mostly meant cutting down on wine and limiting cupcakes. However, I gained weight; probably the lack of exercise. Another weigh-in in 4 weeks.

Slow trot. Walked up the gasline after making the motions of trotting up the first hill. Trails are in great shape. Wish I were. Hip hurt for a good mile.

hill hiking (partial Near Point) 2:46:57 intensity: (8 @0) + (1:06:29 @1) + (34:31 @2) + (1:00:42 @3) + (5:07 @4) 7.4 mi (22:34 / mi) +1706ft 18:31 / mi

I left a little earlier than last week, but not enough to stay ahead of the seasonal loss of sunlight, so it started getting dark sooner. And there was a steady breeze that I didn't account for when selecting my gear for the day. Legs more tired than last week since I actually did something yesterday. So, I was a little cool and it was starting to get dark and I couldn't see anyone else on the hill, so I decided to quit early rather than risk becoming cold on the way down and falling, then being lonely and cold, in the dark. Donned my new Kahtoolas for the steep and slick downhill section, and they were GREAT. Except for where there was exposed soil, where I suspect I was churning up soil unnecessarily that will erode when it thaws. Listened to three Backstory podcasts. Proud of myself for getting out. I think the cold took a lot out of me, tho', as I was tired in the evening and the next day. Need to get a bigger light-weight daypack to carry enough clothes.

'Helping' Dan set controls for his third fun course of the month. Since we have no snow, it's still good orienteering. I got cold and lost enthusiasm. We've grown accustomed to the great maps we've been using Outside and it's hard to come back to some of our Anchorage maps. At least the vegetation was very nice today.

ahr:100 max:121 shoes: INOV8 OROC 340

Walk in the dark. Traction was better than expected. Stopped and bought myself some Kahtoolas (good traction grips) and was eager to try them out, but the traction was fine without them. Didn't even break a sweat.
Severe motivational challenges these days.

strength 1:00:00 [3]

Shoulders, with 2# weights. Lucie's easies for core, Marie-Cat's legs.

Friends came over to discuss our filling the appeal of the denial of his long-term disability claim, which led to discussions of wills, advance directives, doctors. Ugh. His brain still isn't working right 9 months after a concussion from a mild car accident. Scary stuff.

So very proud of myself for motivating a climb up Near Point. Dawdled 'til 2:40, which meant it would be dark on the way down, which it was. Icy but no falls. Gorgeous day. Listened to 2 Backstory podcasts for entertainment.

Trot at dusk. Nice trail trotting conditions. Enough snow to make it light and bright, and nicely packed. Not enough to be soft. Felt middling.

Walk, with a little trotting thrown in, up the hill from hillside parking. Queen Bee to lower Stinger to full Hive. Felt lousy, but had a podcast to entertain me. Dodged the many mtn bikers on the single track trails. Luckily, they just can't go very fast on these trails so I wasn't surprised by any.
Stayed in the sauna too long last night listening to Ray tell a story about boneheaded moose hunters.
