Missed one by a bit and had to go back, thought I had perhaps overshot one (because looking for a spur instead of reentrant) in an area I've had trouble with before so backtracked a ways. Otherwise, I found the controls fairly directly. Hard to quite call them 'spikes' but I wasn't lost and didn't need to search - just tentative. Beautiful day, in a new area for me. Hips felt fine except when I stubbed my toe a bit. It's definitely easier to trot in a race than when training.

From Hillside Park parking, a bit of ski trails, then up Queen Bee and Jive. A little bit of trotting. Mostly walking with some pauses for late raspberries. Hip's achey but piriformis/sciatic didn't hurt 'til just now.

Walk in the rain. HR is bogus again.

Note

Lazy. Opted for staying home for the O board mtg instead of getting exercise.

Didn't charge my Garmin, so faked the time. Long-O, starting in rain, at Crevasse Moraine. Piriformis painful so trotted just little bits. Mostly on trails. Soaked 5 minutes into it. I finished the 'race' to give my O recruitee friends someone to beat, but then learned they bailed after 1st control after they got lost. But I won the red, beating a team which was the only other entrant. Major dehydration. Not good for anything the rest of the day. Dan slaughtered turkeys instead of orienteering. Our turkey venture ended up being a bit pricey - about $100 for a single 20-lb all organically fed turkey. I suppose no more expensive than our beekeeping activities. Gorgeous day in the woods. The air redolent of highbush cranberries. Understory turning some lovely golds and reds.

From Hartland Pond to Riverton, Pleasant Valley, up west side of Bark Res, thru West Hartland and back home. HOT HOT HOT and humid. Rained for middle part. Stopped a couple times to conduct some business w/ AK via iphone, and to fix rubbing brakes. Pretty spent by the end. Just too hot. But a nice loop; I'd only done the PV to the lake 1/2 before, and the ride down to PV didn't add much effort. But, of course, very slow.
