Orienteering race (MetrO Bassendean) 1:07:23 [2] 5.74 km (11:44 / km) +30m 11:26 / km
shoes: Merrell Continuum

Controls seemed very spread out to the south so I headed to Success Hill where there was a decent bunch (and it's a pretty area). #8 had been pinched by the locals, so needed to pick up another one later but that didn't make a lot of difference - it was always going to be a long course, it seemed. For once, I did something similar to Nick D who won the Medium - just took three times as long.

shoes: Giant Anthem 2 XL 2019

Despite the dire forecast, the Great Leader's choice worked out well. Started at Burswood and cruised around the river between Windan and UWA, set a new record for the length of the coffee break and cruised back via EQ. The easterly helped on the outbound leg and provided a bit of relief as a light headwind coming back. Nice to have CB with us, as always, since her usual ride wimped out and went to the beach.

Cycling (FROGs ride warmup) 21:36 [2] 6.18 km (3:30 / km) +16m 3:27 / km
shoes: Giant Anthem 2 XL 2019

Got to the FROGs start early so decided a bit of an explore around Burswood station was in order - added to the store of knowledge but still not completely confident I've got it sussed. Made it back just as the group were heading out 2 minutes early!

Note

There are still good people in this world. Post FROGs ride, I'm at Bunnings in Cannington where the temperature is somewhere north of 40 deg C in the carpark.
Exit the store and the nice young couple in the adjacent car point out that my front tyre is as flat as :-( Nail/screw job to go down that fast, so no point in blowing it up again even tho' I had the compressor on board.
Grind my way through the change - thankfully I have all the kit including a ground sheet but it was still hard work and roasting hot.
Getting to the end and putting stuff away in the back when the guy parked on the other side rocks up and say "anyone changing a tyre in these conditions is going to need a drink" and plonks a cold bottle of water on the tailgate.
In my befuddled state I managed to blurt out a thank you as he drove off but beyond noticing it was a white van with CCTV stickers, I've no idea who he was - what a legend.
He was right, too - I absolutely smashed the bottle of water!
