Orienteering race (Long Distance Champs) 1:28:08 [2] 5.32 km (16:34 / km) +103m 15:06 / km
shoes: Merrell Continuum

Beautiful morning and much nicer terrain than yesterday. Plodded along steadily until #6 where I came up too high on the spur to start with and had to make a couple of traverses up and down before I realised how far up I was relative to the control. Overshot #12 and almost reached the watercourse but didn't lose too much time. Only took 50% longer than Russell C who blitzed the rest of the field today. Finished the day with a nice, long drive around the tracks surrounding the maps, ostensibly looking for an overdue competitor. Fortunately, he found his own way back. Nice work by Shotrat and crew, thanks.

Orienteering race (Mid Distance Champs M65) 1:02:29 [2] 3.31 km (18:54 / km) +53m 17:30 / km
shoes: Merrell Continuum

Long slog to the start - thought I might bail there and volunteer to pick up all the tapes on the way back. Had enough time to recover and set off with very conservative route choices, especially in the green stuff. Worked OK until #6 to #7 when I pulled up way too early and wasted a heap of time thrashing around halfway between the controls. Eventually twigged that the big, conical shaped lump of rock I could see through the scrub probably coincided with the grey surface with the red dot in the circle on the map, not the flattish bare rock that I fixated on. Rest went smoothly enough but very slow through the thick, rough stuff. Finished in my usual last place (of those who finished) - took nearly twice as long as Rob W's win. Nice work by Craig and Rachel in tough terrain, thanks.

Another old favourite from Burswood to Guildford with a detour thrown in as part of some works in Bayswater. Lovely morning in contrast to the forecast. Cast of thousands to help celebrate Penny's birthday (thanks for morning tea).
