I started at the Hartfield Rec Centre and rode across to Tomato Lake to join the rest of the gang who came up from the Narrows via the Freeway and Roe Hwy (my morning radio gig prevented me getting to an 08:00 start). Usual prolonged coffee and chat and we headed back to the Narrows via Windan and EQ. The leader was unfamiliar with the Claisebrook area and took us up over the Plain Street hill which left me gasping!
Returning solo I decided it was a good opportunity to try the run down the railway from Windan to the Roe Hwy. Still lots of opportunities for bike path/lane development along there! Bit of a hassle getting through Rivervale to Victoria Park as well - major water pipe replacement going on along the railway. Legs were really feeling the combined effort of this ride and the FROGs ride the day before, so thought about jumping on a train - bugger, bus replacements only.
Eventually made it to Roe Hwy and turned north - cheered up a bit as the roadworks at Roe / Orrong (Welshpool) had diverted all the northbound traffic off the bridge and through the lights so I was actually travelling twice as fast as all the poor buggers on Roe Hwy (and I was barely doing 15 kph into the north easterly).
Struggled up Hale Street (more road works) and back to the Rec Centre - completely shattered by then. Off to Maccas for an icy cold drink which I couldn't get down without causing a huge headache so trundled home for something more tepid and a nap.
90 kms in 2 days is a new record for me and it's unlikely to be bettered anytime soon :-)
