Finally stopped moping around and decided on a cross ride in the Pentlands.
Why anyone would voluntarily do cyclocross as a hobby is beyond me: impossible to cycle up hills of any reasonable gradient, downhills are terrifying, feet are frozen from the outset, hands gradually go completely numb, any tiny patch of ice will kill you, you have to spend the whole of the next day cleaning the damn thing, etc. etc.

First double day of winter training, and it's a nice easy one. Recovery around Blackford: a few big trees down, so a bit of off-roading necessary.
Wrapped up in many layers, which seemed like a good idea when shivering in my flat, but sweated buckets once I actually got going.

2/3 of the usual stuff. Glutes feeling a little tired on the cycle to work immediately after.

Feature freeze in work got in the way of leaving at a reasonable time, so I had to combine dog walk and intervals instead of getting beasted by AnDoug. My anticlimactic return to the meadows is postponed for another week.
Conveniently, Braidburn worked for my prescribed 5x(3x300m) with 45s then 30s between reps and 2.30 between sets. Ran from one bridge to another, which is about 280ish. Times hovering between 40-44s (2:30-2:40/km), which I am happy with for wet, dark, undulating, windy. Should probably have went for a slightly longer WU and WD, but couldnae be fecked.

Decided on some Vit D today, so headed out for an easy lunch cruise, clockwise on WoL and railway route, up to 8 miles this week. Super slippery on all the wet leaves and WoL overflowing at Dean Bridge as usual.
Could still feel the pesky left glute, but it eased off nicely in the afternoon. Took it easier (between 6-6.30min/mile when cruising) than previous weeks, which I think have been a bit hard.

A wee bit more than last week. Still have the upper body strength of a sheet of paper. (Is that an expression, hmm.)
