Orienteering (Porto City Race) 58:20 [4] *** 8.1 km (7:12 / km)
30c shoes: New Balance M860SB4

Finished 7th of 36. Ran 11.8km. A couple of poor route choicesm and heading to the wrong control at a butterfly, probably cost me the 90 seconds it would have taken to get 5th place again. However my painful back (caused by the rock-hard beds at the hotel) fixed itself quite early on in the run. The course was in two seconds - running around the narrow and irregular streets in an old suburb of Porto, then short legs around a couple of housing estates.

Orienteering (Porto City Race) 26:07 [4] *** 4.6 km (5:41 / km)
22c shoes: New Balance M860SB4

Relay race in the City Park on the northwestern edge of Porto, beside the Atlantic Ocean (and including a couple of legs on the beach.) Went first leg, i.e. mass start. Was able to follow Helen and then Steve, on alternate gaffles. A couple of route choice errors, although the second was actually a better line in the end than the straighter route.

Finished strongly and handed over in second place to Chris. We finished third in the end, so another trip to the podium! Prize haul included a medal, a bottle of port, a can of mackerel (confiscated later by airport security, sadly), and a bar of luxury soap.

Ran 5.4km.

Orienteering race (Porto City Race) 41:13 [5] **** 4.7 km (8:46 / km) +230m 7:03 / km
19c shoes: New Balance M860SB4

Porto City Race - Night Race in the old town of Porto. Lots of hills, steps. Had a pretty good run, only minor wobbles rather than lengthly mistakes. Ran with headtorch but the elastic had gone so had to hold it and turn it on/off when needed for reading the fiddly bits of the map or particularly dark passages. Managed to get 5th place and so sneaked a medal (top 5 get them on the 2 top courses). Uphill finish! Placed 5th of 22 finishers.
