Orienteering race (Level B) 1:05:26 [3] *** 11.25 km (5:49 / km) +260m 5:13 / km

Running Brown at SLOW CompassSport Cup Qualifying match at Headley Heath, near Dorking. Straight-line distance 9.4km. Good run, largely thanks to catching my two minute man (HWW) at Control 6. He then tailed me for almost the rest of the course - he got ahead at a couple of places, but not for long. This was useful to me as I stepped up my pace to stay ahead as much as possible. However I got dropped at the penultimate control (a bingo control!) and had to run hard to the line keep as much of my 2 minute advantage as possible.

Result - FRDan got a couple of minutes ahead of me (turns out he had been behind for much of it, according to the splits) here thanks to this mistake, but I got four seconds ahead of Matthias, who made a bigger mistake at the final control. Plus, still got HWW (admittedly he had a great excuse, running a 15km XC y/day.) So, pretty pleased in all. The weather was nice too and the heath wasn't too muddy.

Road Running (City Runners) 26:36 [4] 6.67 km (3:59 / km)
shoes: Specalized MTB Cleats

City Runners. Good start, but lost the fast group at the Tower of London - walkway was temporarily closed. I went around, the others waited instead and got ahead of me. So no run to run at pace against. Still, not bad time.
