Cycling 3:02:05 [3] 27.17 mi (6:42 / mi)
slept:8.5 shoes: Brown Leisure Shoes

Cycling with Anna and Paul E. From home, up the Lea Valley to Ponders End, then across up a big hill to Chingford - 1h 20m. Then up north through Epping Forest, heading back south a different way and getting somewhat lost as it got dark, ending up in Loughton. So took roads back to Chingford, then after discovering no trains running, more roads to Woodford station.

Cycling 41:42 [3] 7.98 mi (5:14 / mi)

To Battersea Park from home. Via London Bridge. Took at wrong turn at Vauxhall Junction, ended up down in Kennington...

Cycling 30:52 [4] 7.18 mi (4:18 / mi)
shoes: Brown Leisure Shoes

Back home from Battersea Park. Somewhat under the influence, but really hammered it on the empty roads. Didn't get lost this time, and went via Tower Bridge rather than London Bridge.

Cycle Commuting (In to Work) 17:29 [4] 3.32 mi (5:16 / mi)

Was rushing, but very busy on the roads.

Cycle Commuting (Back Home) 16:54 [3] 3.26 mi (5:11 / mi)

Very busy indeed on the roads east of the city, cars parked across the streets and people running everywhere... it's the first day of Eid. Also, the first day that I felt really cold on leaving the office - Autumn is definitely here.

Orienteering race (Regional Event) 1:40:06 [4] *** 11.5 km (8:42 / km) +70m 8:27 / km
spiked:18/27c slept:8.0 weight:147.6lbs shoes: Standard White O-Shoes

Long Valley North regional event - a worthy ex-JK area. Ran M21L. Wet underfoot and started to rain shortly after I started, getting stronger and stronger towards the end. I was soon soaked through and didn't really mind. I did make a number of bad mistakes though, which pushed what would have been a respectable time (1h 30) to a poor time (1h 40), moving most of the way down the results list in doing so. I finished 14th out of 20 runners in the end (results). Oh well, it was a good training run.

The first leg was one of the longest I've done - 1600m. The terrain looked very familiar - I recognised it straightaway as the opening scenes to the James Bond film Die Another Day - the wide open tracks stood in for the North Korean landscape in the hovercraft chase scene. No hovercrafts or experimental British Army vehicles out today, just some bikers and very soaked runners.

This is almost certainly the flattest M21L course I've ever done, but also one of the more physical ones - the rain definitely made it harder.

Cycling (To/From Event) 1:20:00 [3] 13.7 mi (5:50 / mi)
shoes: Brown Leisure Shoes

Biking from home to Waterloo, then from Aldershot station to Long Valley North - got very lost on the way as did a 180-degreer on leaving the station and went hurtling down a hill - very embarrassing. Then later back the correct way to Aldershot and then back home, slowly, from Waterloo.

Cycling 1:50:00 [1] * 16.2 mi (6:47 / mi)
slept:9.5 shoes: Brown Leisure Shoes

A relaxing bike ride with Anna on a sunny and warm (for October) day. After getting the train to Enfield Lock, we followed the Lea Valley Navigation and National Cycle Route 1 north, going through Enfield Island Village, Gunpowder Park, Waltham Cross, Broxbourne and up past the various nature reserves, water channels, locks and marinas that make up the upper Lea Valley. We finished at Ware, arriving as a train pulled in to take use back to Liverpool Street.

Cycle Commuting (In to Work) 17:23 [3] 3.31 mi (5:15 / mi)

Got handed a freebie bum bag by the police at Bank, they were doing a Road Safety campaign. I wasn't carrying a bag so ended up holding it for the remainder of the journey - probably making my journey a bit less safe! But still nice to get a freebie that is very useful for me.

Orienteering (District Event) 1:13:48 [3] ** 10.2 km (7:14 / km) +120m 6:50 / km
24c slept:8.0 shoes: Standard White O-Shoes

CompassSport Cup Final at Greenham Common - running for SLOW. Took it quite easy as was still recovering from illness last weekend. In general didn't feel so bad, but felt really weak and tired on the final loop. First time running over 10km this season, but Greenham Common is extremely flat and fast. There were three long legs going across the old cold war airstrip.

Made a few small mistakes here and there - nothing costing me more than a couple of minutes each time. Finished 75th of 144 in an extremely strong field including most of the British Squad and others travelling down from around the country. Huzzah just beat me, I just beat an injured Simon E, and beat Ian. Rob P and Jon M soundly beat me. Fuller analysis to follow.

Cycling (To/From Event) 1:54:36 [2] 21.36 mi (5:22 / mi)
shoes: Brown Leisure Shoes

From home to Paddington via The Mall, then from Newbury to Greenham Common, then later from Fulham back home, via The Mall. Very tired on the way back.

Cycle around Limehouse and Canary Wharf, taking photographs with a water theme for a camera club.

Cycle Commuting (In to Work) 17:59 [2] 3.31 mi (5:26 / mi)

Took it easy as first time on the bike since getting ill a week ago, and not fully recovered yet. Got minor bump by a white (BT) van on the Aldgate gyratory - managed to rearrange his wing mirror. He was trying to cross lanes and I was holding my line. I already knew this was the most dangerous part of the journey.

Note

50/50 at this point whether I'll be well enough for the CSC Final on Sunday.

Cycle Commuting (Back Home) 17:11 [2] 3.22 mi (5:20 / mi)

Much more traffic than usual on the Whitechapel Road.

Cycling warm up/down 48:00 [3] 12.0 mi (4:00 / mi)
shoes: Brown Leisure Shoes

To London Bridge station in a hurry, then from Faversham to the event (Blean Wood) in a similar hurry, then back home from London Bridge in a cloudburst...

Orienteering race (District Event) 56:11 [3] ** 7.2 km (7:48 / km) +180m 6:56 / km
spiked:19/21c slept:8.0 weight:149.2lbs shoes: Standard White O-Shoes

Brown course at SAX Blean Wood event. Wet underfoot but not raining, and the temperature was nice too. After a silly mistake at No. 1, had a good race, felt great and went faster towards the end. I had plenty of energy on finishing. My SI card messed up two control numbers so was technically disqualified but will be reinstated (more to follow on that!) Thanks very much to Sarah for nice lunch and tea afterwards! Update: I won! :-) First ever win on a Brown, i.e. top-level, course.
