ESOC Sprinterlope around Fountainbridge - Long 5.5km

Really did not enjoy this. Not feeling speedy anyway as had a pizza for lunch at work but the map (mapped at 1:5000) was printed at 1:7500 so all the lines were half the width the should be and every wall and fence appeared crossable. I was having to stop and stand still and it was still impossible to tell.

Scottish 6 Days Day 6 at Grandtully - M21E 5.6km

Routegadget

I knew the area was going to be fast and technical and sadly it wasn't to be my day.

I got round the first loop of 4 with only a 30s miss on #1 so was growing on cofidence but then immediatly this was all gone at 5. Manged to hit the fence halfway bang on line but after I crossed the open proceeding the control I deviated North, perhaps to the wrong open patch rather than following the compass. Found 9 but didn't realise it was 9 and eventually relcoated off the green I should have done on the way in. 5:25 wasted.
Slow to 6 as had no confidence and stumbled upon it in the green.
Winsplits not picking up me just being very hesitant on a lot of the controls. Next mistake highlighted is #15 where I found another control before it which confused me.

Generally I was too happy to follow elephant tracks rather than do my own nav. Probably would have been better with an early start. Winsplits says 8:08 wasted.

Scottish 6 Days Day 5 at Craig a Barns - M21E 13.5km

Loggator Routegadget

This was the only day that I was particulary nervous for, mainly after my bad experience as an M20 doing the JK in 2012 where I was out for 3 hours and got very lost. Hadn't amnaged to source myself a gel but had a pocket stuffed with jelly babies to get me though.

Steady to 1 then had planned a bold route to 2 until I picked up the elephant track path and decided it was a safer and faster. Was followign this until near the crag at 8 where I had managed to accidently go down an unmapped elephant track / mtb track thinking it was a path which took me West and not South West. Still tried to make it fit and I only noticed quite a long way down the hill. Found the control fine and arrived at the same time as Ali who had spiked it from above but confirmed I had already binned over 3 mins and added a hefty amout of climb.
Stuck with Ali for #3 and followed Nathan into 4 and 5 I then was very much solo. Steady for the next few. Came out of 9 too far south and ran down the same path for 50m before realising I'd missed the junction fo had to backtrack.
GG and schminty went straight through me on 13 where I'd thought this signalled the point where I would see no one else but to my surprise I sumbled across a very tired Ali at 15 who had no intention on running with me and soon went to retire.
Slow and steady through the rest of the open (I'd be lying if I said I was running quickly as the TV stream has evidence otherwise). Still time for one miss though on 22 when I got caught out by a classic #pathorcrag. I thought the crags to the north was a just a small path so when I hit a line of crags I wasted 4 mins hunting there.
Stumbled round the last loop.

Winsplits says 8:25 wasted.
