Easy HFW from work, via the the Seat. Bumped into a EUOC group heading up to watch some fireworks so halted my run and joined them. After watching lots of very far away fireworks I got bored and cold so left them and jogged back.

Manchester City Race - Men's Elite 8.8km

Routegadget

Didn't want to miss out on a high class urban event accessible by train. 1st one down arrived at 11:50 so I had 40 mins to get across the city centre before the last start.

I knew the canal area around start and finish would be tricky as I had done the urban race in 2013 but I hadn't found any time to do some geeking. Time losses on 1 and 2 not being 100% focused. After that it was a less technical and I was clean. Picked an awful route to 7 though missing the 1st tunnel and then choosing to go through the 2nd. Didn't lose any time due to the line not cut on 10 as none of the leaders risked it either. Took some time at 23 to spot the optimal route, maybe should have pre-planned better. Happy overall though and wouldn't have gained a position if I was clean.

Time losses (1:10):
#1 ~15s Went under one bridge then hesitated as it didn't see right - needed to go under two
#2 ~20s Ran down a different road than what I planned and luckily it didn't cost me more time
#7 ~25s Nowhere near optimal route choice. hesitated getting out of 6 then ran through the 2nd tunnel.
#29 ~15s Got confused with the layers and ran down a ramp when I should have stayed high

EUOC FWTN at Blackford Hill - Long 4.3km

Joined in with the mass start tonight. Mucked up number 1 so was immediately at the back of the pack but worked my way up to about 3rd out the golf course. Spiked the next four and lead a pack out the Hermitage but slipped back a bit up/down/up the hill again. Then I lost 3 mins collectively over the last 2 controls; finding 9, getting out of 9 then finding 10 so Andrew had caught up with me.

All the action of the head to head racing was nothing in comparison to what happened next. A 250m sprint to the finish to the carpark on the other side of the observatory. I was leading and kicked early but I could hear Andrew was trying his up-most to stay in contact as he didn't want to lose out on a finish leg competition. There was some small hesitation for me trying to spot where the finish box was so with Andrew ready to push me out the way and punch first, I grabbed the box off the table and punched first myself and come out victorious in this duel. I'll let others decide if this was cheating. It certainly provided some entertainment.

Invited to go along to a WASP run - I am guessing this means Wednesday Arthur's Seat Pain that happens every Wednesday lunchtime starting from the botton of Radical Road. Route is crags, steps up Nether Hill, down to Dunsapie, up Dunsapie Crag, down the steps, up MFD all the way to Nether Hill again then down the Dasses.

Found it pretty brutal. I'm wondering how many I will have to go along to until it seems easy.

ITW via a pleasant detour on the seat. Major porridge oats explosion in my dry bag containing phone, cards and keys. Hadn't thought of buying them from the Tesco's opposite the office before I set off.
