British Middle Champs at Stock Hill - M21 6.1 km

Routegadget

Exited for this after the week in Slovenia and the new more legible map.

Scrappy on the first 4 as was unable to stay on any bearing. Big hesitation on 7 even though it was a very short leg. After this I was in a train with Michael Hallett who had caught two mins on me and Alex Lines who had started 2 mins in front. We eventually dropped Alex going to 13/14 and afterwards carried on leapfrogging each other which worked well. 18 was the last long tricky leg which I took mega slow and after that steady not making unnecessary errors.

Time losses (1:15):

#2 30s Offline and hesitation
#7 45s Big hesitation stopping too early

Definitely the best I've done at British Middles. I can't remember a previous time I've been so clean. Good weekend for me.

British Sprint Champs at Bath University - Men's Open Heat B 3.6km

Routegadget

Not as technical as the sprint in Cerkno last week so was able to plan ahead and push myself more, albeit missing the top end speed i wish for. Two time losses so without the second one i could have scraped through to the A final but it wasn't to be.

Time losses (30s):
#9 ~10s Picked the route into the control via the path through the flowerbeds from the NE but there was unmapped building work. Not knowing if i could still go through i just ran around the North route
#14 ~20s Only time I hadn't planned ahead so probably good planning. I had remembered where the routes were to get up/down to the service area/ Parade but forgot there was building work at one point blocking a route which caught me out.

British Sprint Champs at Bath University - Men's Open B Final 3.3km

Routegadget

No real nerves before this as it was the B final and also it was on basically the same area but with a few more legs through the service area/parade complex.

Nailed the first route choice through the service area/parade on #2 and was surprised I had already caught 1 minute man Sam Fielding which settled me down further. Once again able to plan ahead and thought i had picked the shortest route on 9 but didn't spot the route via the lower service area. I had watched the end of the A final and competitors including Schminty getting stuck by vegetation at the fence into the track to finish so made sure I didn't do that and put the after burners on for the finish leg. Staggeringly I was down in 5th with 2 short controls to go but ended up 2nd. Result!

A bit of hesitation in places but nothing to log really regarding time loss for once.

NGOC Street-o in Cheltenham - Long 5.8km

Nice course planned by Tom C starting and finishing in Pitville Park and his map extension was good as well. Nice route choice legs. Always looked 50:50 so just picked the routes to maintain flow through controls. Nice to have SIAC enabled to get used to it before the weekend.

Almost had a perfect red ribbon of splits but clearly wasn't running fast enough through the first couple and last few.
