Recovery run. Having driven back from work through torrential rain i didn't fancy running straight away so delayed when i normally go until it had stopped raining. Did the same loop as last week and was nice to run in the light for once. Legs felt fine.

Actually navigated to control 1 for once instead of following the masses so went to the right gaffle. Stuck in a train from then on with others my pace that were clearly also feeling the effects of yesterday.

Was trying to remember control codes 2 at a time which was working until 18 when i had the wrong code in my head so assumed the right control was actually not mine until 30s later when i double checked.

With one control to go I took the lead of the train only to navigate perfectly to number 9 instead of number 20, wonder why everything made sense instead of the code and also wonder why the train wasn't with me anymore.

Time losses:
8) 30s Very hesitant just following train, not really naving.
9) 20s not following bearing
17) 10s - hesitant as wasn't sure what feature i was looking for
18) 30s - had wrong control code in mind didn't go and punch control initially when near it
19) 30s - poor RC just following train
20) 60s navaigated straight to #9 instead of #20. Very confused

This was an improvement on last year but I was hoping for better on a long course on open moorland.

Ended up in a nice train after #8 but the 10 mins (at least) of mistakes I made caught up with me and I bonked bad going up the last big hill having eaten all my food and couldn't push at all, not naving, just following the masses. Early start though so fortunately i missed the hail.

Time losses:
1) 3 mins. Sort of parallel error, misinterpreting the edge of the bare rock for the crags
4) 70s, got distracted by Craig and another runner when hesitant. I was almost at the crag and turned uphill.
8) 2:15 wasted getting confused with the clumps of pits. Was tempted to go the trig point like andrew did and take a proper bearing
16) 20s Too far South not really naving
17) 30s mis-interpreting map again and stopped too soon
20) 1:00 Very hesitant as couldn't locate myself of find good attackpoint
24) 20s Not following bearing

Had no aim for this. Assumed I would hate it and if I did well that was a bonus. After stuffing up the first control I had no motivation and didn't even try to get a tow from crossing runners.

Time losses:
1) 4 mins Thought I would see it if I skirted down the side of the re-entrant but i must have stayed too high. Should have relocated quicker than just doing a loop of the nearby area.
2) 30s Rage running after mistake on 1. No bearing from junction meaning too far south. Also hesitant when saw a ruined fence and doubted where i was.
9) 50s Misinterpreted map wrong and ran too far

May have slightly under-estimated how technical it was. Therefore I was struggling to plan ahead and never really felt I was racing, probably not reaching high hr. Mistakes creeping in towards the end.

Time losses (total over a minute):
2) Wasted 35s making a parallel error heading down the side of a wrong building.
14) Wrong RC. Went left. 5s
16) Hesitant with crossable walls so went all way around. 5s
19) Hadn't checked descriptions, was wrong side of building. 5s
20) Wasn't naving and found dead end - 10s
21) Hesitant with crossable wall again. 8s

AA Club night. Did an extra few km beforehand. Lots of regrouping to begin with but eventually managed to form a splinter group and leave the masses behind.

Easy day tomorrow.
