Fell Race race (Passing Clouds) 1:19:24 [3] 15.7 km (5:03 / km) +559m 4:18 / km

Alannah and Tom mentioned this was on and the course didn't look too tough. Beautiful gentle start. Started dropping backward on the little pull up to Upper Hulme and a bit more after. Climbing onto the Ramshaw Rocks ridge however I started feeling decent. Reeled in a guy who had just passed me and then worked along the ridge trying to reel in Tom and another. Stayed with them for a bit but then Tom encouraged me to push on which might have been a mistake. The heat really got to me going down the upper Gradbach valley section and I was slow up to the road where they both overtook me plus a few others. Stopped a while for water and it was breezy on the ridge so started feeling better. Coming off the top of the Roaches though I hit the wall and did some bits of walking on the flat :-( some guy almost got me going up Hen Cloud and he was still close back in Upper Hulme. A spectator behind me said "there's loads coming now" which made me scared that some of them might be fast roadies so I pushed on across the fields and track to finish fairly clear.

Overall poor but pleased I managed to race for a few k up, along and down. Don't think I've turned the corner yet but I can see it! Probably could do to cut down on the barbecues and up the training.

Started after the start line and also a little after the start. At my current level of unfitness I was aiming for sub-18, which I will claim I achieved despite running 18.23.
