Orienteering (Beaudesert JK Trophy L2) 23:29 [3] 4.0 km (5:52 / km)

After two days of 20-25 minute courses plus some intervals on Tuesday I felt ready for the 3.9k of JK Trophy middle leg. Was a bit hectic in the pre-start and didn't really know what was going on except that Tom Fellbaum had gone out first (except he hadn't because he knew even less...).

Matt came in as I was tightening my shoelaces and I went out with Jonny and Joe Woodley. I mainly just followed Jonny and checked my codes. We swept past Tom and Jamie at number 5. Was ahead for a short while on the way to 9 before Jonny powered past. A few times I thought our direction was off so slowed a little. He got a bit of a gap into the depression at 14. I thought he was going dead straight to 15 whereas I fancied going up the reentrant to the path first. Joe followed me up the wrong re-enterant 90-degrees to where we should have been going. We hit the same path but went up onto the slope to the right of the correct one and I only noticed when we crossed paths with yesterday's course. Dropped under the OOB and into the right place. Couldn't see anyone ahead so was thinking either we had lost the train or got away with it. Turns out there wasn't really a train but Tom had snuck back through. Lost some seconds to Joe up the hill and trailed him into the finish to set Willy off with Spongey.

Was disappointed to not have kept with Jonny and given Willy a race with Sasha but at least Joe followed! Willy pulled away from Spongey however and grabbed us second place!

Well chuffed. Good to get a medal. We all agreed we would have taken 2nd beforehand. Also all lost a bit of time so keen for another go at the British.
