Orienteering race 1:14:54 [5] 11.9 km (6:18 / km) +100m 6:02 / km
shoes: xTalon

Most of the young lads stayed away and I scored my 2nd win on the brown! Good track record in Castletown as last time I was 2nd. Most of the first 9 was fast running and I pushed hard enough knowing that I'd have to take it slower in the wooded section and recover.

Lost some time to 1 being slow in the wood. The rest to 8 was straight forward and I was 38secs down on Hugh. 9 was a long leg across the Demesne and into the wood. I was as careful as I could getting to 9 and still missed it, though I didn't loose any more than a minute. Hugh dropped about 14 minutes here. Dropped about 90secs at 12, not concentrating on being accurate. The next lot to 19 were grand though didn't take optimum route to 17 and also struggled to exit the wood after getting 17.

19 was another long leg and being tired I decided to take safe routes thereafter....but this did not work!

For 20 I ran down wide clearing to pick up the path that headed towards the control. When the path reached the green, which was laurel, it vanished! I clambered through the laurel, but got disorientated and faffed around a bit. Got my thoughts together and decided to go west to pick up big ditch/path and small ditch and came across control on way! About 3 minutes dropped.

Again took safe option for 21 rather than go direct. Headed down the big ditch, refound the path I took towards 20, cut the corner at the bit of green to pick up the couple ditches which would lead to the control. The trouble here was the ditches resembled none of the other ditches which were very obvious. In fact the wood here was all lines/ridges and perhaps 2 of them were marginally deeper?? I ended up going twice to the wide ride to try intercept the ditches but never found them and got the control by luck. lucky to only drop 5 minutes.
Zoe also had this control on the green course and she found the ditches at the western end and followed them, but they petered out to nothing and could find nothing to follow. She lost more time than me!

Didn't take away from the enjoyment. The course made good use of the area. I had plenty opportunity to get into my running

Still had yesterday in legs, easy run.
Plenty sand at shingle beach, but was too soft to run on, so went through the marram grass instead.

Eye is good enough that I'm forgetting about it :)
