Well, I went down to DVOA's season opener. It was a long drive, a long day, and I spent more money on tolls and gas then I did on the orienteering, but it felt worth it. I missed too much orienteering last fall and I am not going to skip so much this spring for a class. I was desperate for some orienteering, and I found out they only had about 6 inches of snow there in New Jersey.

They had a blue course, so I spent almost as much time on the course as I did driving down there. There was no elevation to speak of in the park so it was good practice doing pace counting and compass bearings. One major mistake on control 6. I almost thought they didn't hang it because I found orange tape marked for the event and no flag. But then I got almost all the way to 7 when I realized I had been in the wrong re-entrant so I went back for it. I was glad I did. I almost was going to try to claim the flag wasn't there! A gorgeous day and I felt marvelous, especially when I put dry clothes on again.
