Orienteering race 3:26:00 [3] 9.4 mi (21:55 / mi) +95m 21:15 / mi

My battery died on this run. I doubled the distance, but I actually did a little more than that as I picked up a control on the way back. I was already wet from moving through some dark green vegetation, but then I got a thorough soaking by a nice downpour. I had gotten so miserable I was sure I was going to go home early upon my return. But I managed to go out for another short leg. I was 26 minutes late on returning from this three hour outing.

Orienteering race 1:15:00 [3] 5.0 km (15:00 / km)

After being late, I had less than 2 hours to do anything more, so I decided to just go pick up a couple of close controls than call it a day. Time and distance are approximate. My arms look like pin cushions for mosquitoes.

Unfortunately, I always overestimate how long it will take me to return and thus I could have gone for at least one more control. It was so hot, I could not even run the road back, but I was still early on returning. Of course, Joe blew by as he charged up the hill. He's a machine!

Orienteering race 1:48:45 [3] 4.18 mi (26:01 / mi) +76m 24:38 / mi

After an hour rest, I decided to go out for only a 2 hour run. Then I stuck to my original plan of doing a back-to-back 4 hour rests. After going through the experience, I decided that was a poor strategy. I did not sleep all that well through it anyway, and maybe my time would have been better spent on the course. As it turned out, the batteries in my headlamp were too low to do that this time. There were a few things that I felt I should have brought, but did not.
