Sprint: Blue

So I was telling people after the race that I incorrectly punched a first control on the red course, and I thought that was my mispunch. I don't think it was, I wouldn't be disqualified for that, would I?

Now looking at my GPS, it looks like I didn't visit control 9. I was a little stunned by this at first, but I think I know what happened. I was actively trying to plan ahead during the race (not something I would typically do), and as I was planning ahead, I must of lost track of which control I was on. I don't think that has ever happened to me before, as I would typically just work one leg at a time (although, I must have mispunched somewhere before, my memory is certainly faulty).

Anyway, I really love sprints, and I hadn't done one in a long time. So this was worth it, and I really enjoyed it. Great to see friends too.

I decided at the very last minute to sign up for the BG. I am really glad I did. I have been icing and trying to strengthen my calves, and I think it payed off. I didn't feel any issues today. It's been a while since I have been in shape enough to do this. And although I know I am still slow, despite being "in shape enough", what I like about races like the BG is only have to beat myself by avoiding major mistakes. Over twice as slow as Greg, but I managed to get another shirt anyway.

I missed the good company of Charlie (he beat me too :-) ) except for a few short encounters, but I now have some additional sense of accomplishment by doing the navigation for the whole race without following.

I made what I would consider two mistakes that cost me a bit (I am sure AP shows more, but I haven't really figured out how it determines that yet). I went too far to the north on the way to 21. That was challenging navigation for me. And then I ended up running down the wrong trail a ways en route to 23.

I know I don't get much traffic here, but my kudos to the organizers and other volunteers for making a really fun day today.
